I’m a little later posting this than I’d hoped.
This is Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now for my mom — Happy Mother’s Day, Mom 💛 And happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.
I spent the last few days trying to get a decent recording, but every time I set up and hit record, something interrupted it: lawnmowers, airplanes, barking dogs, dogs wanting love, fence builders pounding T-posts, package deliveries, rain, random neighbor visits, a dying phone, wind blowing over the tripod… but I finally finished one this evening.
I grew up listening to a lot of Joni Mitchell because Mom loved her music so much. I’ve always loved this song, but it’s one of those tunes you don’t fully understand until you’ve lived a bit of life. Tried to honor Joni’s take with phrasing and tuning. This is an open D tuning on guitar.
