Introducing our new editorial backdrop Yellow Rust.
Hand dyed and painted in the studio, experimenting with different layers, textures, and tones to create something rugged, atmospheric, and editorial.
Most of these photos were taken on my phone, so they don’t fully capture the texture and depth in person, but I’m genuinely happy with how it turned out.
I caught most of the process on my phone, so if you’d be interested in seeing a longer YouTube breakdown showing how this backdrop was created, along with how it actually looks properly lit and shot on camera with a subject in front of it, drop a comment and let me know.

You know what, this space is bigger than I realised. Yesterday’s task was to start the process of hand staining a new backdrop for the studio, which meant I needed a full 6 metres in length and 3 metres in width just to prep it properly.
But before I even started that, someone came through to the studio because they had a concept for a shoot where they wanted the set to feel like an art workshop.
After moving some of the furniture around, it revealed that the worn flooring, paint marks and imperfect wall already created the perfect environment for what they had in mind.
It was just one of those days where the studio fully got active and reminded me how adaptable this space actually is.
Actor @elijah_holloway.official , who joined EastEnders in 2024 as part of the new generation of the Mitchell family, came through to the studio to perform a monologue alongside @theopenspaceactingstudio .
Directed by @sambakerjones , with cinema photography by @sam.oates_ and sound by @anthonyfordaudio .
This is what production looks like. A team with defined roles coming together to build a scene with intention.
Toneset can be used for content, but it’s been designed for production.
