So the gist is that, there’s this project I’m bidding for, the client happened to explain, after I’d asked some questions, that the TA have an impression of what an #africanaccent sounds like.
This was the exact reference that was shared and I’ve spent all morning studying it.
I’ve had to fight in my mind whether or not to enlighten the client or even the best possible way to educate her or her TA on the authenticity of my accent and that of others like me who are native Africans who do English #voiceovers .
So just to be fair, I have been studying the Wakandan accent to find common ground because I’m positive there are. Guess what? I have found them.
Certain words are pronounced with Ghanaian accents, some, South African, others East African but with the general pace of Nigerian English.
With this note, I’d then deliver my next draft to the client and enlighten her on why the Wakandan accent was created for the Wakandan plot and it’s hardly the ideal African accent belonging to any region in Africa.
Now here’s what you might take out of my gist for your week, sometimes don’t be afraid to ask strong questions in your conversations with clients. They just might need your inquiries to access deeper information that they posses that will help you to deliver on your job even better.
In short, ask the tough, uncomfortable questions as they come to mind, along the lifecycle of your gigs.
