10 years ago my brother and my friends Theo and Alex inspired me to start DJing and basically showed me the blueprint - they put me onto Joe Kay, Soulection, Kaytranada, Mura Masa, Minnie Riperton and the likes of Vince Staples, Smino and Anderson Paak. I’m talking 99.9%, Malibu, Blue Suede, Smoke and Retribution, Lotus Eater, Lovesick… these times none of us lived in a city so clubs and events weren’t too regular - instead we just linked up and talked music.
Around the same time my mum told me stories about an artist she loved and grew up with in the 80s. Recalling her Uni bedroom as a teenager, she had a poster on the wall of an album called Diamond Life. When I heard that album I understood the meaning of the word timeless. Her name was Sade Adu.
Fast forward to today, I have been building my own platform for 6 years inspired by these sounds and the places and people around me.
London is a cultural hub and I’m influenced by so many varying music styles. I’m naturally a very determined person and often hard on myself but this is because I’m pushing to learn more about the music I play, dig deeper into sounds and understand cultures with a deeper knowledge and respect.
10K followers is a milestone that I’m proud of and although I’m less and less focused on the numbers, I wanted to share something special for you. It’s a short 1 hour mix filmed in my flagship residency Global Tones, which has become one of the most popular RnB / Global Sounds events in London running 3 times a week all year.
