A few clips from my monitor whilst filming the most incredible whales on the planet, the B’1s.
Dave Roberts zodiac skills navigated the maze of ice to get us close enough to the behaviour whilst @helen.hobin held onto the jib ensuring the gimbals safe positioning. I used a @gyrostabilizedsystems 512EX to capture the whales doing their thing.
We filmed this in December 2023, it was the worst ice year for the whales since ice monitoring began, this is due to climate change rapidly melting the seals preferred ice habitat. During our trip we only saw the B1’s twice to film properly from water level and on drone simultaneously.
Expedition Killer Whale just aired on BBC 2 and will next show again on New Year’s Day.

A long version of my shot of the male coalition successfully taking down a one year old wildebeest in a storm, from Cheetahs Up Close with @bertiegregory streaming now on @disneyplus and @hulu
The noise of the storm helped conceal the cheetahs approach, with the majority of the herd having their backs turned against the oncoming rain, they were blind sided. This allowed the cheetahs to get much closer before giving chase and isolating an individual.

A portrait version of some moment’s during the best hyena hunt I’ve ever managed to film. Filmed in Zambia back in 2020, reaching speeds of over 50kph, hyenas often try to use their stamina to run their prey down.
The stallion did an amazing job of hanging back from the zebra herd being pursued, successfully protecting them with kicks at the hyenas.
