Portraits have been absent in my life lately. I need to draw more portraits, so send me your photo. I don’t know which medium(s) I’ll use. I don’t know if I’ll even draw you, but feel free to try. I don’t know if you’ll like it. I don’t know anything, except I would like to draw lots of new people soon. This is kind of like my airplane portraits, except I’m not on a plane, and there’s no time limit for submissions, unless I get sick of it and delete this post. Thank youuuu ❤️
I made some arts, and I’m going to drop them somewhere in Seattle each Friday in May for #GreenHeartFridays because May is #ArthritisAwarenessMonth and I am proud to be working with @arthritisfoundation to further their work in pursuing a cure. Watch my stories for location drop clues leading up to each Friday! Hooray! #sponsored
Roscoe #5 RETURNED‼️A Christmas miracle! A man named Steve emailed me this morning about a “good boy” art piece he had removed. I called him immediately. 30 min later, Steve dropped him off! To thank Steve, I gave him Roscoe #7 (much smaller). Last January during the very early morning, @barking.at.the.dogstar and I hung Roscoe on a dead sign on an empty lot (originally a @elcamionseattle ). EvGuys.co had vinyl signs drilled to the sign, which I had assumed was guerrilla marketing. Steve informed me that they officially rent the space on the sign, so I am very impressed (and moved??) that they allowed Roscoe to smile down on Ballard for almost an entire year. Thanks EvGuys Seattle! I’ve been on a nondestructive + unofficial public art kick this past year, and I am grateful Roscoe’s presence (and removal!?) made the world feel a little more interesting and connected. What do I do with BIG Roscoe now!?
During Christmas 2020, my Dad texted me a photo of himself dressed as Santa with his new puppy Laddie in front of his Christmas tree. My Dad has dressed up as Santa many times, but this particular photo struck me as having an eerie quality. I decided to draw it for a holiday themed art show at @fantagraphics in Georgetown (Seattle), so it’s up on their wall (and for sale.. do people even buy holiday Christmas art?!) Go enjoy it in person as least! Thanks to @brandon.lehmann for organizing the show! I also did a little @cartoonmesslive set and met some lovely folks!
Almost 10 years ago, @teykem approached me about a portrait commission for a @uwapress book cover for “Looking for Betty Macdonald” by @paulabeckernow . I grew up with Mrs. Pigglewiggle books, so it was a fun project to work on. @teykem ’s cover design and my fingerprint method portrait came together nicely. Recently, Paula DMed me with an interest in buying the original art, so we met up for coffee and had a great time. I was a little self conscious revealing the naked source drawings (with no digital compositing), but Paula loved their rawness, and I was reminded that the process is just as valuable as the final. Thanks @paulabeckernow ! I’m excited that you get to enjoy the original drawings on a daily basis!
