A lateral apartment near Carnegie Hill schools or even a big loft in Tribeca might have made more sense, but they committed to the “dream” and to staying put. “My daughter has the best house in Greenwich.” That’s my intercessor talking, but she did have a point. It’s a grand one. Built at the end the nineteenth century, it’s a handsome, albeit late, example of Second Empire style, more often found lined up on streets in historic and high-rent districts of New England’s coastal towns. In the rolling, stone wall–crossed Connecticut landscape, it’s unexpected. "The walls of a guest room are covered in the chic and sprightly Arbres de Matisse by Quadrille Fabrics. Initially popularized by Billy Baldwin, it remains a classic, perennial favorite. The rattan-and-wicker chairs flanking the fireplace are from Vittorio Bonacina. The collection of ceramics came from the clients’ New York apartment, and the silver stag candelabra were found in the MarchĂ© aux Puces, Paris."2: "A wide, high, timber-cased doorway opens the kitchen to the living room.
