THREE MONTHS TILL 🎟️SHOWSTOPPER🎟️ IS RELEASED!
Getting closer to the release of my debut novel on May 7, I’m reminded of several moments over the past year where the book has suddenly felt ‘real’.
🎟️ Receiving the exceptional insight of @hayleyfairheadeditor after a *while* away from Olly and Tarun’s story whilst the book was on submission. She brought the figments of my imagination into focus and truly made the characters come to life.
🎟️ Seeing the cover by @c_leadraw evolve into the *perfect* one we have today, capturing anxious Tarun and larger-than-life Olly forever.
But nothing has made this book, soon sitting on bookshelves, more real than sitting in my kitchen and getting to hold the early proof copy in my own hands one evening (pictured) when I was late back from a night at the theatre. It feels reductive to say ‘it looks like a book’ but… it does!
I can’t wait for SHOWSTOPPER to be out for readers to meet all the finalists of The Larry Awards. These characters (apart from maybe *one* rogue tenor) are brave and brilliant, like the best theatre kids are.
Three months!! That’s about as long as Cathy spends in summer stock in ‘A Summer in Ohio’!! Not long at all!!

When ten finished copies of your debut novel arrive at your door, there’s many things you consider doing with them.
🎟️Building a pyramid
🎟️Jumping into a pile of them, Scrooge McDuck style
🎟️Thrusting them into the hands of passer-by’s
But for me, there was one clear answer.
Take your novel to a significant location: The Crystal Palace Dinosaurs.
From the first draft nearly six years ago to the published version, this has always been the setting of a major turning point in the story (no spoilers!!)
It’s the one place in the plot that’s not tied to the world of theatre, and instead to two fictional boys: Olly and Tarun.
It brought me a lot of joy to put their finished story atop the real life bench they sit on in the shadow of some clay dinosaurs built by the Victorians in the middle of a South London park.
Finished copies of SHOWSTOPPER are already reaching readers, and more will head out over the next two weeks before official release on May 7th.
Hearing from readers as they join The Larry Awards competitors through the pages of the book means the world to me. Maybe one day, someone will sit on the bench where ✨things change✨ and think about two fictional performers, and their kind hearts.
