Recap of 2025:) At Tranzit Festival, Rijeka, Croatia @krila.ri photos by Marin Ćuk Vurnek Photos from our performance of Letters from Chiran at Tranzit Festival in Rijeka, Croatia, this October. This work asks a simple but difficult question: how can we stop war, learning from the mistakes of World War II? Based on the story of my grandfather, a survivor of the Kamikaze units, Letters from Chiran has been performed across Europe since 2024. I was given the opportunity to share this work in Rijeka, Croatia. Rijeka is a city marked by complex and painful histories—World War II, the Cold War, and periods of dictatorship. Beneath its beautiful harbor lies a past that is far more brutal than its scenery suggests. Even today, many people living there experienced the civil war of the 1990s. To share this work in such a place—to reflect on the foolishness of war beyond time and borders, and on how war affects each individual life—was a profound honor. 10月にクロアチア・リエカで開催された Tranzit Festival にて、『Letters from Chiran』を上演したときの写真です。 第二次世界大戦の過ちから、私たちはどうすれば戦争を止めることができるのか。 特攻隊の生き残りであった祖父の体験を題材に、2024年からヨーロッパ各地で上演している作品です。今回、この作品をクロアチア・リエカで上演する機会をいただきました。 リエカは、第二次世界大戦、冷戦、そして独裁の時代など、複雑で重い歴史を背負った街です。美しい港町の風景からは想像できないほど、壮絶な過去を持っています。今もなお、30年前の内戦を実際に経験した方々が多く暮らしています。 そうした場所で、時代や国境を越えて「戦争をすることの愚かさ」、そしてそれが私たち一人ひとりにどのような影響を与えるのかを伝えるこの作品をシェアできたことを、心から光栄に思います。 Director @francesco.concretotheatre
