I’m incredibly honoured to have been unanimously reselected as our Liberal Democrat candidate for Harrogate and Knaresborough at the next General Election.
Since being elected, my team and I have been working flat out. We’ve secured funding for the rebuild of Harrogate College, pushed for an inquiry into local mental health services which is now underway, held Yorkshire Water to account over sewage dumping and rising bills, and dealt with more than 12,000 pieces of casework and correspondence for local residents.
But the next big challenge is ahead of us.
After winning 15 of 19 seats on Harrogate Town Council, our ambition is clear. We want the Liberal Democrats to become the largest party on North Yorkshire Council and make Harrogate and Knaresborough a Conservative free zone.

🚨 Big News for Harrogate Hospital! 🚨
After years of relentless campaigning, I’m proud to confirm that Harrogate Hospital has now secured the £14 million it needs to remove RAAC and build brand new facilities. ✅🏥
This win didn’t happen by accident. I’ve been banging the drum on this issue long before I was elected – from launching a petition handed into the Department of Health, to securing national backing from Lib Dem colleagues, to pressing Ministers in Parliament and in private.
This funding means:
🔧 RAAC will be removed from the hospital estate
🏗️ New facilities like the Day Case Surgery and Imaging Centre will be delivered
🧑⚕️ Safer, modern healthcare for our local communities
We’ve fought hard for this – and we’ve delivered. 💪
I’ll keep pushing to get the investment our area needs and deserves.
🛏️ Great to visit Thistle Hill Care Home with Cllr Hannah Gostlow and see the great care being provided for residents.
👏 Their new extension for younger people with physical disabilities and acquired brain injuries is a much needed investment in specialist local care.
☕️ They host regular coffee mornings for veterans and other groups too, I look forward to come back to one of those soon.
Private Members Bills are a way to make change outside of the Government’s agenda. As the raffle is about to be drawn, I want to know what you’d do if you had the chance to table one. Some great examples include:
- Max Wilkinson’s Sunshine Bill mandating solar panels on all new homes
- Wendy Chamberlains’s Carers Leave Bill, giving additional unpaid leave to employees with caring responsibilities
- Wera Hobhouse closing legal loopholes and making upskirting a specific criminal offence
- Danny Chambers’ Puppy Smuggling Bill, tightening the rules and banning the import of dogs with cropped ears and docked tails
What was missing from the Kings Speech? A commitment to our local economy.
I told BBC Look North how disappointed I am to see that the government just doesn’t seem to understand our highstreets and stores.
At least we’re getting digital ID cards 🙄
Listening to the Kings Speech today, I’m glad to see SEND on the agenda but we need to be doing more- to fix care and the NHS, mend our broken relationship with Europe to grow the economy and tackle cost of living.

What do I want to see in the Kings Speech this week? Measures that will help our local economy thrive and resident’s pay packets go further.
As the Government sets out its agenda for the reopening of Parliament, we need to see a scrapping of the family farm and business tax and reversal of the National Insurance Contribution hike.
The government should back the Liberal Democrat plans to get Britain Moving by reducing fuel duty, capping bus fares at a pound and reducing rail fares by 10%.
We need common-sense, fair solutions including removal of the silly restrictions on disabled people’s bus passes.
Huge congrats to the nominees and winners at the @YourHarrogate Local Hero awards.
A particular shoutout to the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient John Fox and his decades of service for local charities, voluntary groups and fundraising initiatives.
Less than 2 days left to elect hardworking Lib Dems across Yorkshire and the North East.
I spent my bank holiday weekend on a whistle stop tour across the north, helping fab local campaigners from Bradford to Sheffield, Hull to Leeds and Newcastle to Sunderland.
It’s a stark choice between Trump-style division with Reform and hard working local champions with the Lib Dems.
