Just wrapped a truly special 46-date run around Australia with @regurgitators . I’m incredibly grateful to travel alongside such an inspiring crew, bringing a top-tier show to life night after night. Even more so for the new friendships that have grown along the way. @dem_mob showed up every single day with purpose, growth, and generosity, sharing a depth of knowledge I’ll carry with me for life. So proud of those lads. Shoutout to the 2480 goon squad @mediapuz for cutting through the long days with laughter, keeping spirits high when it counted most. To experience this country so closely, to witness its beauty and connect with it in such a real way, has been an absolute honour. And now, I’m beyond excited to head back home to Aotearoa for a couple weeks with the Gurge to deliver this masterclass in dirt, rock, and pop to my homeland. Thanks @regurgitators for trusting me with stage/guitar duties. And thanks to everyone from…. I’m writing this fully aware of how dramatic and indulgent it might sound, but this past week I’ve been hit with a wave of emotion and nostalgia tied to my obsession with music. A book arrived in the mail today. I’ve barely made it past the first few pages, yet it’s already pushed me to reflect on the scenes and bands that shaped me. The Clean have always felt like a pinnacle in my life. Growing up in the sleepy hollows of Oamaru, Otago, surrounded by a kind of quiet stagnation and endless grey skies, I was always searching for something to latch onto, something immediate and inspiring. I found them on one of those long, uneventful walks down Harbour Street, headphones locked in, looking for anything that felt like it meant something. At first, I didn’t really get it. Maybe I’d been conditioned to expect something more polished, more obvious. But over time, as I began to understand their influence and the way their sound rippled outward, it all clicked. What once felt loose and strange suddenly felt essential. Two days ago I stumbled across an old playlist I made during those formative years, right when I was leaving Aotearoa for Australia. It was packed with Flying Nun bands, drenched in that Dunedin sound. And tucked in there, almost by accident, was “Too Old” by Bad Dreems. Back then, I had no idea they were from Adelaide. In my head, they belonged to the same lineage, the same feeling. Realising that now only reinforces the point. The reach of that sound, of those ideas, went further than I ever understood at the time. Somewhere in the middle of all this nostalgia, I even tried to call Alex from Bad Dreems. No answer. Turns out he was performing surgery. Which somehow feels perfectly on brand for how surreal this whole week has been. I’m probably getting lost in this, but the feeling is simple. Music really is something else. Bless The Clean. Bless Bad Dreems. Onward @flyingnun @baddreems @richard.langston
