Two Don Hansens hanging out on Harbord Road, Brookvale…For obvious reasons I’ve always focused on collecting and riding Brookvale made 1960’s Malibus. In September last year I traveled to the North Shore of Oahu and was able to borrow a Hansen Super Light off my buddy @singlefin808 - my introduction to US old mals. It was shaped by Fred Smole, one of 8 key shapers in the Hansen shaping bays in the 60’s. Built between 1968-1969 with the thought to try and lighten the longboards to compete with the short board revolution. Hansen super lights ranged from 9’2-10’. That is why the boards had 2/3 stringer and glue lines with removable fins. Lighter glass jobs = lighter boards. I was blown away by its performance. Darren, being the legend he is, was kind enough to send me back to Australia with the Hansen (removable fin setup was handy here). On the basis of a trade, I took his Super Light, and in return I will source him a clean example of Bennett shaped by Wayne Burton from 66/67. This week I lucked into another Hansen locally through a good Mate. This one being the predecessor to the Ultralight, and Hansens response to the Yater Spoon at the time. 9’10” Powerflex with all the bells & whistles including step deck nose and the 747 pivot fin. Pumped to continue to expand my knowledge outside of Brooky, Thankyou Darren. Time to ride it.

1 of 6. Built to celebrate 70 years. For our anniversary, we’ve collaborated with six shapers whose influence has helped define generations of surfing - each crafting a one-off board that reflects both heritage and progression. Introducing a sneak peak of Board 1 of 6, designed & shaped by Tom Bennett. These six boards will be on show- and available- at our 70th Anniversary Celebration on April 11. We will also have these available via our website for anyone that can not attend the night. Stay tuned , we’ll be unveiling the remaining one-off shapes over the coming days. Surf it. Hang it on your wall. Six boards. Six expressions. No repeats.

Blinged up 9’4” Heirline. A timeless Australian-inspired Old Malibu style board, designed & shaped by Tom Bennett. The Heirline blends involvement-style surfing with practical modern touches. Designed with a set-back wide point, rolled bottom contours, pinched rails, and a scooped nose concave with bevel, it offers fluid trim, responsive turns, and confident noseriding. We like the Heirline slightly heavier for classic glide and durability. It sits pretty in the water for that connected, stable feel underfoot, perfect for finding trim with ease. From locked in nose rides to controlled tail work and mid-board trim, the Heirline performs across the board.
