From Silk Road cities to glacier-fed lakes, this is a journey through two countries that share many things but are different in so many ways.
In 10 days, we’ll move through the bazaars, mahallas, courtyards, and madrasas and Soviet architecture of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, then leave the cities behind and head into the wild beauty of the Fann Mountains: alpine lakes, high passes, shepherd camps, red-clay villages, campfires, and nights under a sky full of stars.
We’ll share tea with locals, meet knife makers, rug weavers, shepherd families, and photographers, wander through Soviet neighbourhoods and ancient settlements, and follow a route that connects mountain trails with the long memory of the Silk Road.
This trip is for those who want more than a list of monuments. It’s for people who want to hike, observe, listen, and feel the essence and rhythm of a place from the inside.

Kazakhstan is my second home.
I first moved to Almaty in 2017, and what I found there was far more than I could ever have imagined. I found a country almost impossible to describe with justice: immense, wild, generous, chaotic and full of contrasts.
Kazakhstan can take you from alpine peaks and glaciers to dry steppe, otherworldly canyons and sand dunes. From eagles and snow leopards to antelopes and camels. From the forests of Tien Shan spruce to the desert’s Saksaul. From the 7,010 metres of Khan Tengri to the 132 metres below sea level of the Caspian Depression. It feels like travelling from heaven to hell and back again, through every possible landscape, emotion and state of mind.
Kazakhstan is also the reason I started organising tours. I wanted to show people how extraordinary this country is, beyond the clichés, beyond the maps, and the “Stan” stereotypes. And, in some way, I wanted to give something back to the communities and places that made my life much more meaningful and exciting.
This August, join me on a journey through the Almaty region: glaciers, dunes, canyons, shepherd villages, Soviet modernism, Kazakh hospitality and endless discoveries.
Come see the Kazakhstan I fell in love with. 🍉🍎

TIEN SHAN ESCAPE: GLACIERS, DUNES & BORDER LANDS — 10 DAYS 🏔️🏕️🌄
Kazakhstan is all about scale, contrasts, and wild beauty — and this 10-day route is built to feel it. From Almaty’s green boulevards, bazaars and Soviet-modernist architecture, we move into the mountains, the steppe, and the far eastern borderlands near China.
We climb into the Zailiisky Alatau for multi-day hiking and two nights at a historic alpine base (2,476 m), trekking among glaciers and high peaks. Then we descend into Altyn-Emel National Park to explore Bronze Age petroglyphs, the Singing Dunes, and surreal red-and-white canyon landscapes.
Heading east, we stop in Zharkent to experience Uyghur culture, visit its beautiful wooden mosque, and eat incredible local food. Then we camp by a remote salt lake near the Chinese border, with silence, open horizons, free-roaming horses, migratory birds — and, if the weather allows, reflections of Khan Tengri (7,010 m).
The final stretch takes us to Kaindy and Kolsay Lakes, then to the dramatic Charyn Canyon and its “Valley of Castles.” Before returning to Almaty, we spend a night in a yurt on a family-run farm, meeting beekeepers, sheep and horses, and sharing proper farm-to-table Kazakh food.
This trip is for all kind of travellers who want something remote, immersive, and exciting.

WORLD NOMAD GAMES & KEL SUU LAKE — 10 DAYS 🏔️🐎🦅🏕️
Kyrgyzstan is for travellers who love vast landscapes, living traditions, and routes that are carved in the mountains. In 10 days, this journey connects mountain pastures, nomadic culture, Soviet-era atmospheres, and everyday local life — from Bishkek to the Naryn region, Issyk-Kul, and Karakol.
We start in Bishkek, exploring leafy boulevards, bazaars, residential districts, and the city’s Soviet modernist soul. Then we head into the Naryn highlands, where horses, yurts, and wide alpine pastures set the rhythm. You’ll stay in a family-run yurt camp, share kumys with local hosts, and choose to ride or hike to Kel Suu Lake, a turquoise high-altitude lake framed by monumental peaks.
Along the way, we meet the people who keep these traditions alive, including a traditional saddle maker, with a workshop and stories from the world of Kyrgyz horse culture.
Then we reach Issyk-Kul Lake for the World Nomad Games — the largest celebration of nomadic cultures and sports in the world. Expect horseback games, festival energy, music, competitions, and unforgettable moments by the lake.
The route continues through the Karakol region with eagle hunters, Skazka Canyon, scenic valley hikes, and a stay in a Soviet-era sanatorium.
This trip is for nature lovers and travellers who want to discover something wild, human, and full of character.

FANN MOUNTAINS & SILK ROAD — 10 DAYS 🏔️🕌🍉
If you’ve ever wanted to experience Central Asia beyond the postcard, this is the journey. In 10 days we blend two worlds: the raw wilderness of Tajikistan’s Fann Mountains and the timeless atmosphere of Uzbekistan’s Silk Road cities. We start in Tashkent and move along backroads and old caravan routes through Khujand and Istaravshan, then dive into the mountains for days of trekking and camping among glaciers, alpine lakes, high passes, and quiet valleys.
After the trek, the road brings us back to everyday life: clay villages, Soviet-era architecture and mosaics, and the colour and chaos of bazaars and mahallas in Panjakent, Samarkand and Bukhara. Along the way, the best part is always the people: tea with shepherd families, conversations with craftsmen, rug weavers, knife makers, and local photographers who make these places feel alive.
You’ll sleep in a mix of hotels, tents, mountain huts and guesthouses, share campfire dinners and stargazing nights — and you won’t be carrying heavy bags: donkeys and our team support the trekking days, and meals are taken care of by mountain chefs.
This trip is for anyone who’s comfortably active in everyday life (no special preparation needed) and for curious travellers who want more than a checklist — a route that’s going to be wild, surprising, and deeply rewarding.

A thousand little things I love about Karagandy.
Two nights and three days in Karagandy. A city shaped by the coal mining industry, the long shadow of one of the largest Soviet Gulag systems (Karlag), and by being so far out in the steppe it became a national joke.
Due to the Stalin-era deportations (1930s–50s), it still feels strikingly multiethnic. I had some of my best urban exploration walks here, and some of the most genuine encounters I’ve had in Kazakhstan. Parts of the city reminded me of Baltic towns and St. Petersburg.
Karagandy is worth visiting not only for its historical significance, but also for its layered cultural heritage and the human stories you stumble upon if you just keep walking.
A place I’d happily return to.

ANTROPOGRAFIE.
