A couple months ago, me and some of my favorite people to create with got together and made a horror short film in a month. If you know me, you know I’m not a horror girl but I do love a pressure-cooker timeline that makes you stretch and see how much you can learn by creating something from nothing. And boy, did we learn. This was highly ambitious for a one day shoot with VFX and a multi-universe aspect to it 💀 I learned that I need to chill and simply, among many other things. Although I am my worst critic, I want to share this short as so many people came together to make this come to life and I really really want to shout them out and express how lucky I feel to create with them.

We shot a dystopian western short film in 48 hours.
Here is our crazy timeline:
7:00pm: We pick the two themes for our story.
7:00pm-11:00pm: Writers room. No bad ideas here, everyone pitches, everyone votes, until one concept comes out as the winner. We hit up locations, actors, and any favors we have on standby.
11:00pm-6:00am: Our writer, Kate McFarland, goes off and puts our story arc into a 7 page script. The rest of the crew tries to get some sleep.
6:00am-8am: Any pre production possible is attempted here.
8:00am-5:30pm: Shoot in Location 1.
5:30pm-6:30pm: Company move to Location 2 which is almost an hour away 💀
6:30-8:00pm: Shoot in Location 2 as you are racing against losing the sun.
8:00-9:00pm: We wrap our production and head back into town.
9:00pm-4:00am: We start the assembly and edit for as long as we possibly can.
4:00am-9:00am: Sleep.
9:00am-7:30pm: We lock ourselves in Jaime’s office and have 3 of us editing at once. We sent our scenes out to a music composer, get a VFX artist to create an intro for us, and attempt to get the cut to a sound mixer.
7:30pm: We fail our upload but finish the short 😅
All in all, it was a wild experience and I am so thankful for everyone that participated!
