This is one of the last pair of stays I made for one of my amazing clients in Berlin 💕
As you can see..it is not historically accurate. During the regency era, stays didn’t have a front spilt busk. The split busk was first patented by the French corsetier Jean-Julien Josselin in 1829 and became very popular from the late 1840s.
My customer wanted something different and asked me to have a short busk in the front to be able to wear the stays by herself.
I am always up for trying something new so I accepted 🤩
Here you can see the result…made of a beautiful purple silk.

During the 1890s the “Swiss belt corset”, “riding corset” or “bicycle waist” were advertised, for active women who did not want to give up the Victorian silhouette, with the fashionable narrow waist, but needed more freedom of movement.
I got inspired by this to introduce an underbust corset into my collection 💕
The pattern and shape is inspired by the piece from the Artex Cellular Clothing Company dated 1890 and held at the V&A Museum in London.
It is made of cotton coutil and beautiful cream cotton satin, decorated with white cotton lace.
