It’s already 1 day to the new year? How did we get here😰⌛️ The year has flown past for me, as I’m sure it’s been for many others. 2025 saw a lot of life changes and personal shifts in my routine, which has resulted in a hurried spirit. Even in my walk with God, I’m always taking mental stock— am I doing enough, giving Him enough, loving Him enough, neglecting my walk with Him, serving well in ministry….the list goes on yet I must admit I often do nothing about these ruminations. Which ironically make me feel like I’m not doing enough again. The cycle repeats. But Jenni Ho Huan’s “Hosted by God: to really live” has shifted my perspective. It is a soft and tender read that invites us to simply sit at Jesus’ feet. Instead of running around like Martha, Jesus calls us to be Mary. To bask in His presence, to worship Him, and to let Him strengthen and equip us to serve Him. As the year closes, I hope that everyone can carry this rested spirit into the new year. Hustle, but not without His presence. Work, but not without His wisdom. Set goals, but not without His input ❤️ Happy New Year’s Eve!🎉 -n ⋆⭒˚.⋆

i’ve just finished completed Dream Small! it was a humbling read that reminded me of my place in this world as a seemingly normal person. And that it’s okay to be in my corner of the world, blessing others and making a difference in where i am. we may be small, but it doesn’t mean that we aren’t effortful, hardworking or persevering. the fruit of our character may not be loud and attention grabbing! and most of all, we can still work heartily for the Lord’s eyes without looking for such results and attention. the story in slide 2 and 3 about Cliff really reminded me of this! 🥹 it’s a timely read for me as i look back on the year and reflect on my personal milestones. I recommend this book as an encouragement to your heart, if you feel disheartened for not accomplishing “much” this year. 🤍 - p ・ ͜ʖ ・

BOOK REVIEW: The Problem of Pain by C.S Lewis “Why does a good God allow suffering?” I never know the answer to this question. When someone I know is in pain, it feels apathetic to come up with a list of reasons as to why their pain is justified. Pain is pain, for which sometimes explanation is insufficient. 🍁 But I decided to still pick up CS Lewis’ ‘The Problem of Pain’. Lewis’ books are packed with wisdom, but it takes time for this wisdom to be clear. One must ponder over it in light of the gospel a few times to truly capture the essence of what he is arguing. Since it borders into an apologetic title, taking a stab at it was daunting. 🍂 However, my experience reading Chapter 6, “Human Pain”, was surprisingly tender. Lewis argues for a God that allows pain so that we may be drawn towards Him, for it is in His presence worshipping Him that we feel the most fulfilled and safe (even if our current pain blinds us from that reality). 🍁 Many suggest God to be sadistic, since He seems to allow suffering to happen to good people. But it is often “good” people that may not realise their need for God, and God loves them too much to let them go without knowing Him. In removing all our wordly joys and nudging us to turn to Him, that may very well be the most self-sacrificing act of God— to relinquish His deserved glory where we choose Him above all, to accept a reality where we choose Him because we have nothing else. -n ⋆⭒˚.⋆

BOOK REVIEW: Battles of the Soul by Jason Teo We don’t talk enough about the struggles that wage war inside of us. Perhaps that’s why Jason Teo’s book comes in handy🗡️ 🌻 As someone naturally inclined to being more emotionally turbulent, I often grieve over the silent battles we face that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Wounds, scars, hurt and sin— these all eat away at our souls bit by bit🫤 (Not to mention the arrows shot at us by the evil one, which bear testament to how real the spiritual realm is!) 🌻 We can find hope in God, who calls us to take up our spiritual armour and fight. But sometimes, we just don’t know where to begin🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️ 🌻 Jason Teo’s book is the tool we need to further sharpen our weapons. He uses many anecdotes and Bible verses to equip us to fight the spiritual battle strong, and to encourage us to turn to God and His Word to get through the seemingly unending trials we face. 🌻 If you would like a powerful, Biblically-sound and enriching read, Battles of the Soul might just be your next read :) -n ⋆⭒˚.⋆

BOOK REVIEW: MANAGING YOUR EMOTIONS BY BENNY HO ❇️ I’m often in tension when it comes to my feelings (especially when I feel terrible!): these feelings are no doubt real, but I wonder if there’s a right or even, godly way to handle these emotions. Managing Your Emotions by Benny Ho addresses six negative emotions - Anger, Depression, Fear, Guilt, Pride and Worry. Each emotion is addressed in varied formats, but what’s constant is the biblical examples of each emotion. It reminds me that while the biblical characters were great and chosen by God, they were also imperfect, fully human and grappled with everyday emotions. Like us! ✴️ Admittedly, there are soooo many Christian books about emotions. So I was intrigued that this book also addresses guilt (a difficult and less talked about emotion)! I suppose it’s a difficult emotion to reconcile because as Christians, shouldn’t we feel guilty for our sins against God? but the issue is handled with much nuance in the book; while part of the process of being a Christian is conviction to turn away from sin, we may face self-condemnation or accusation to the point that we turn away from God. ✳️ Disclaimer: this is a book that has more breadth. So if you want a deep dive into each emotion, this would serve as a primer on how to deal with negative emotions in a godly way. Even so, each chapter contains practical ways to manage these emotions, while surrendering them to God! - p ・ ͜ʖ ・

now reading ❇️ Dream Small: The Secret Power of the Ordinary Christian Life by Seth Lewis i have been grappling with the realisation of my “normalness”. am i supposed to be doing more? should i be more well known? is it ok that i don’t have any large influence? Seth writes that knowing our self-worth in Christ is far better than being extraordinary to the world! and no matter how normal we are, He has a purpose for each of us (even if it may seem lame and small in our standards) hoping that book will be a tender and timely reminder for me that my worth is not found in my bigness but found in the fact that i am God’s! this is a really easy read to get into - less than 120 pages and Seth writes so simply and personally. (got my copy at @sksbooks ! always worth the visit 🙂‍↔️) - p ・ ͜ʖ ・

Currently Reading . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁ ⟡ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy and Kathy Keller 💘 This book is a timeless classic on the important topic of marriage. I took a while to get round to this read, in part because I didn’t feel I was in a season to think about marriage, but also because the saturation of Christian books on dating and romance often leaves one deep in choice paralysis🙇‍♀️ Wading through the pages filled with godly wisdom, I feel my foundations being set for my future marriage, and I come closer to understanding God’s intentions for marital union. Keller is direct yet well-meaning in his delivery, making it feel like I’m in the company of a wise mentor☕️ “To have a marriage that sings requires a Spirit-created ability to serve, to take yourself out of the center, to put the needs of others ahead of your own.” If you would like a read that shakes the edifices of your human ideals of marriage and shifts your paradigm towards seeing God’s vision for holy matrimony, then this book’s for you🕊️🩷 -n ⋆⭒˚.⋆
