I had to dig through some old photos earlier and came across these from a night at @gwdihwcafebar organised by @blue.honey x @thehullygully x @danceformiles featuring legendary @john_morales_mix - taken in feb 2015. I can still remember this night clear as day. The dance floor was rammed. Sweat dripping off the walls. The best disco mixes ever. What a club - Gwdihw and all the people that inhabited it really created an amazing atmosphere. It was hard to only pick 20 photos from that night. I loved photographing much more than filming at these events - it was easier to be part of the night.

Ren first asked me for work experience when they were 16. They didn’t stop asking, and when they finished Uni I finally got to meet them. I was so impressed I hired them. Since then, watching Ren grow as a person and filmmaker has been one of the greatest privileges of running On Par. They’re a rare talent: creative, sharp eye for detail, great taste. This film for the brilliant Gareth Bonello (aka Gentle Good) was our last project together, shot over a few rainy days in the Elan Valley. Gareth’s beautiful new album is also out now on Bubblewrap Collective. Ren’s now off to start a Master’s in Photography. I couldn’t be prouder, and I know we’ll collaborate again. Most of the credit for this one belongs to Ren — for both shooting and editing. 🎥 Film in stories.

⸻ Grappling, a short film I wrote, directed, and made with the @onparproductions team and our regular freelancing partners, will be on TV tonight on BBC Two Wales at 22:10, and afterwards available on iPlayer. I want to thank all the crew—I’ve tagged as many of you as I can (sorry if I missed anyone)—as well as @bbccymruwales , @ffilmcymruwales , and @bfinetwork for their funding support. I dedicate this moment to my dad, who passed away last week. I honestly wouldn’t be here, doing what I do and working with people I love, if it weren’t for him. When I told him I wanted to go to film school 20 years ago, he didn’t tell me to get a “proper” degree—he supported me wholeheartedly and was always so proud of my achievements. Though he may no longer be with us physically, his encouragement will always echo in my head. I encourage you all: tell your kids, your friends, and your coworkers that you’re proud of them whenever you can. Big love to Big Gav.

Couldn’t find a workwear jacket that fit my long arms… so my wife made one. That’s how Workshy started. After having two kids and taking a break, she’s back at it — designing and making jackets and aprons for a hotel in Cardiff, and dropping small runs of bespoke patchwork jackets on the side. She uses offcuts for the patchworks, reducing waste and making each one totally unique. Small batch. Made to last. Sustainability at the heart of it all. I’m so proud of her. Blown away by her talent — as a designer and as a mother. No matter what happens in this life, me and the kids will always be dressed well. Follow @workshy.co to keep up or get your hands on one. #Workshy #PatchworkJacket #MadeInWales #SustainableStyle #Workwear #SlowFashion #MakersGonnaMake #CardiffMade #CircularDesign

Very happy to share the poster for #grapplingshortfilm. Photo from @thomasfarmer . The film is with the festivals and just waiting to hear back! Seems like a great moment to thank some of the amazing women that contributed to the making of this film. @hmwcasting for being the best casting director. @evelyn.errington for stepping up while still at uni to do the art direction. @coco_cheselle who is always amazing to work with on costume. Finally my wife @demi_amber who doesn’t have a credit but has given me so much support throughout the process. From the moment I had the idea to know and beyond. Looking forward to sharing the trailer v soon.

#grapplingshortfilm has just been entered into a bunch of film festivals across the UK. Wish us luck! These pics are from the final day of the shoot, the hardest day for me, as we were shooting in a small space and working with the wonderful and extremely talented @sharonhafmorgan . I really wanted to do a great job and do justice to her and @markflanagan83 ’s performances. I initially felt underperformed myself but looking at the film now I’m really happy with what we captured. Hoping to share a trailer with you all very soon. 📸 @thomasfarmer

To celebrate the imminent completion of #grapplingshortfilm I wanted to share some stills from day 3 of the shoot. The film will soon be entered into film festivals and will finally end up on tv in 2025. Diolch to cast, crew and funders for helping us get to this stage, especially the @onparproductions team - we’ll be organising a private screening in the not too distant future. 📸 @thomasfarmer

@onparproductions ’ latest doc for @bbccymruwales about Paralympic wheelchair rugby 🏉 player @jim__roberts is now available on @bbciplayer . Very proud to have produced this compellingly told story. I showed the first 10min to some students and they clapped at the end - if that isn’t a good review I don’t know what is. Big up to the whole @onparproductions team for this one. Beautifully shot by @sjrdop and directed/edited by Andrew Gough. Thx to @0merhagomer & @hueosaavedra for their input and to @s.paxmcdowell for making sure everyone got where they needed to be on time and in budget. Let me know what you think. 🔗 link in my bio

📷 @thomasfarmer On the second day of filming #Grapplingshortfilm, we faced what i knew thought would be our toughest challenge. Not only were we working in my modest sized terrace house, but we also had to tackle scenes depicting domestic violence. The well-being of our cast and crew is always been a top priority for me and @onparproductions and this time, our concern was heightened, given the sensitive nature of the scenes. Fortunately, my concerns were put to rest. We collaborated closely with a well-being facilitator, provided by 6ft From Spotlight to identify potential effects on the cast and crew, and we made every effort to create a safe space for everyone to express their thoughts and emotions, especially in the face of potentially triggering scenes. Personally, I have a strong aversion to violence, so portraying it on screen was a daunting task. However, we were fortunate to work with the talented fight coordinator and actor in his own right, @kevfight . Kev provided clear instructions to the cast to make the violence appear realistic while ensuring everyone's safety. His professional and matter-of-fact approach eased my anxieties. What could have been a challenging day turned into a highly productive one, thanks to thorough planning. This approach ensured that the day didn't drag on, preventing exhaustion from turning into emotional strain. I want to extend my utmost appreciation to the cast, who delivered exceptional performances with true professionalism. The film has been funded by @bfinetwork and @bbccymruwales as part of @ffilmcymruwales ’ Beacons short film scheme. 🌟👏 #BehindTheScenes #Filmmaking #bfi #shortfilm
