Lots of fun activities on Statehood Day. 🍝 Take home a free postcard featuring historic recipes from a cookbook started in 1846, when Tennessee was only 50 years old. See the original recipe book in the Collections Showcase on Saturday, May 30 starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

Grow something native on Statehood Day. 🌱 Stop by the seed station and plant your own Tennessee native plant to take home. Choose from a variety of seeds including wildflowers and other native plants, then pot them using soil, tools, and guidance from our team. Come plant with us on Saturday, May 30 starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

A rare sneak peek into Tennessee history. 🔎 Tennessee’s original state constitutions are usually stored safely in a secure vault for 364 days a year. Once a year, they are brought out for special public viewing. See them on Statehood Day, Saturday, May 30 starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

It’s National Library Week in the great state of Tennessee and across our country. I want to thank the nearly 2,500 public library employees and the 292 libraries serving Tennesseans. Last year, almost 31.5 million books were checked out, and 13.5 million visits were made to our public libraries, where people could use more than 5,500 computers. Thank you to our library staff serving every corner of the state. I encourage everyone to visit their local library and take advantage of the many resources they offer.

Happy 5th Anniversary to the new Tennessee State Library and Archives! Five years ago today, we officially opened the doors to our state-of-the-art facility at 1001 Rep. John Lewis Way N., near the northeast corner of Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. Since that landmark day on April 12, 2021, we've welcomed thousands of students, genealogists, and history enthusiasts to explore Tennessee's rich legacy in a space truly built for the 21st century. Whether you've visited us to trace your family tree, attend a workshop, or explore our historic exhibits, thank you for being a part of our story. Here's to many more years of preserving the past for the future!
