Our highlights for May. As the year ramps up, we are seeing so many exciting events and openings coming out of Sussex! 🙌 🎭 1st – 31st May: Brighton Fringe Festival 🎁 9th – 10th May: Makers & Distillers Fest, Hove 🍺 15th – 17th May: Beer & Cider by the Sea, Eastbourne 🌿 31st May: Family Open Day at Hollycome Farm And May is absolutely stacked with new openings and returns we cannot wait for: The Salt Room is back! Reimagined coal-fired seafood and meats with those iconic West Pier views from a brand new glass terrace. Welcome home. Madam Lola's arrives in Kemptown on the 29th. Think cabaret, chaos and glamour in one of Brighton's most beautiful buildings. Koda Brewing Co. is setting up at The Sportsman in Goddards Green for their debut pale ale, Quest. The Reading Room opens at Saltdean Lido on 1st May. They offer seasonal bakes, great coffee and evening meals in the most stunning Art Deco setting. The Set opens on 27th May. A 12-seat counter, no traditional menu, just pure craft. One of the most exciting openings of the year. May always feels like the moment where things really get going. Meet Savvy Ferments 🥬✨ We first came across Savvy Ferments at Preston Park Sunday Market in Brighton. A flavour-led, small-batch fermentary run by Savvy and Stevo, where every kraut is built with intention: heat, brightness, crunch, acidity and depth. Raw, unpasteurised and designed to add genuine impact to a dish rather than sit quietly on the side. At the heart of the brand is Cosmic Cabbage, a mascot born from a throwaway joke between the two of them that somehow became the perfect embodiment of what they do. Bold, irreverent and a little chaotic, reflecting the natural energy that comes from food that is genuinely alive and full of flavour. That same energy runs through the whole brand. Stevo leads the creative direction and strategy, driven by the bold flavour combinations Savvy is constantly developing in the kitchen. This month we went Behind the Pass with Ellie Ledden, Prept chef educator, and one of the most inspiring people working in food right now.
