Our dear friends; those that support us near and far,
Tom and I wish to share with you that after much negotiation and consideration, we will not be continuing at Tom McHugo's at the end of our lease in June 2024.
When we took this leap initially and opened the doors in 2016, we never anticipated how much this place would mean to us, to our community and beyond.
The gratitude we feel to each and every person runs deep, and we thank you all for providing us with the support to grow our business, build a team of incredible staff who live and breathe what they do, and a network of familial relationships that we've come to know as our food family; the farmers, growers, and suppliers who make it all possible.
It is our hope to use this time as a celebration of our journey over the last 7 and a bit years, and to enjoy the time we have left in these walls.
This isn't the end, now that we know our fate we will be working toward something else to continue beyond June. We are not sure what that looks like yet but we will keep everyone posted.
We want to thank you all for the support, love and appreciation over our time here.
Without all of you, this place wouldn't be what it is today - our hearts are full.
We hope to see you at some stage over the next six months for the last hurrah!
Tom, Whitney, and the whole McHugo's family
Tasmanian Food is Too Good To Waste - Please take some time to view this short film, it will enable us all to take the next step of waste reduction, eating what is around us each season, and knowing where our food comes from. We’re all so lucky to call lutruwita/Tasmania our home, together we can learn to waste less and ensure the stability of our food systems into the future 💚💚

This is Tom Westcott, co-owner and head chef of @tmchugos and we have been running around in this pub for 5 years now if you can believe it!
We are incredibly proud of the community we are part of here in Tasmania, the wonderful staff who have made the journey so meaningful, and the customers that have supported us for so long. This video was expertly put together by @lukeburgess77 for @_raremedium and headed up by the legend @maryjanemorse ✊ full article by @patnourse that paints the picture perfectly online now - follow the link in our bio. BIGGEST LOVE ALWAYS, Whitney x
A few more snaps of the legends that make it all possible 🩵
The last one is our family, who we don't share on our socials really. They're all very much looking forward to having some more time with us when @tmchugos finishes up on Wednesday.
These kids love the "workshop", they've grown up in this space and feel at home here in the mornings before we open. They'll be around a little more over the next five days acting like they own the place - cos in their world (and in reality) they do. ✌️
Throwback to the first year - 2016/2017 and the birth of some of our menu staples and some dishes very close to Tom and my heart. ❤️
Pic 5 was the first vegetable dish on our menu that evolved into its own section on the menu changing daily. Vegetables from our mates, lamb from Sophie, seafood from Aiden, when cheesebreads were giant and you got 3 of them, when fritters looked more falafel-y and when Whitney used to help make fried pies.
That first year was filled with long days and great people, thanks for embracing us Hobart!
We have finalised our final dates in June and so here are the important details.
Our last day will be Wednesday 19th June.
In the lead up to this date we will be open in addition to our usual hours of Tuesday - Saturday, on Sunday 16th from 3pm and Monday 17th from 11.30am.
We will now be taking bookings for the first two weeks of June.
Tuesday 4th - Saturday 8th
AND
Tuesday 11th - Saturday 15th.
Our farewell weekend, our party, our final hoorah will be over the last 4 days - Sunday 16th, Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th. There are simply too many people we love for just one day to be the main party, so we are making it last for 4 days!
These days will be walk-ins only. That's right, no reservations. This just keeps it fair for everyone to just come on in and enjoy this space at a time that's convenient for them. It is our hope that these last days are spent standing around in the bar and restaurant, meeting with loved ones and colleagues, sharing food together and celebrating what has been one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives. Thank you so much to everyone for all of the stories, all of the laughs and tears, the special memories and everything in between.
We hope to raise a glass next to you at some stage over the next 4 weeks as we bid farewell to this very special chapter.
Whit, Tom, all the team and our mates xxxxx
As always, bookings via email or phone, contact details in bio.
