Trumpet triumphs 🎺
Last night Norwegian trumpeter @tinethinghelseth joined @the_halle to perform the UK premiere of @nicomuhly ’s Doom Painting, a dramatic exploration of the trumpet’s biblical role, written especially for her.
Under the baton of @alpeshconductor , @the_halle also performed Britten’s lively ‘Courtly Dances’ from his opera Gloriana and Walton’s powerful yet anguished Symphony No.1
The orchestra will be performing these works again in Sheffield on Sunday 15 March, 7pm

Trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth gives the UK premiere of Nico Muhly’s Doom Painting with The Hallé and conductor Alpesh Chauhan at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester on 12 March and Sheffield City Hall on 15 March. Muhly wrote this extraordinary new work for Tine and has enjoyed success upon its European premieres with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Oslo Philharmonic.
The Hallé writes, “Tine Thing Helseth takes to the platform to perform this new, exciting work, written especially for her. Musically illustrating the biblical role of the trumpet and celebrating its vast expressive possibilities, Nico Muhly’s Doom Painting leads us on a dramatic journey through this historic instrument’s various iterations: ceremonial object for rituals and celebrations alike; harbinger of Doomsday; and jubilant instrument of the psalms.”
