:: Early May - 2026 :: Listening (multiple times) to: J Dilla - Donuts (a masterpiece in sound reorganization) Midori Takada - Through The Looking Glass (my favorite record marimba recording of all times.) Miles Davis - In A Silent Way (my favorite recording. period.) Joni Mitchell - Blue (tears while I'm making dinner. Man this record is so good.) The Misha Mebgleberg Trio - Whos Bridge (Joey Baron giving us the greatest example of how drums work in a piano trio context.) Moreno Veloso - Every Single Night. (Great songs perfomed by a great songwriter :) ) ‐‐------------,,,,,,,_______,,,,,,,---------------- Working on: Two bows at the same time on the drum kit + other strategies to help organize sounds in a solo context. (Solo set coming up in July here in Chicago. More on that soon. The third Monday of my Homeroom residency will take place on April 20th. The trio with Scott Dean Taylor and Mabel Kwan and myself performs the CY suite at 8:30. For the second set, we're delighted to be joined by Allen Moore on turntables and electronics and Ishmael Ali on cello. We hope to see you there! / / Things a flowing nicely with my Chrome Yellow Suite; I've made a couple of small adjustments to the charts, and added two new thematic elements for the marimba to utilize which I'll put these into practice next Monday. One of the benefits of a weekly residency is the opportunity to reflect on the previous versions of the work, make adjustments - edit - add and subtract - with the goal of developing things further; digging deeper into the music. I can't thank HOMEROOM, Elastic Arts Scott Dean Taylor and Mabel Kwan enough for helping me realize this new music. I keep telling them that I'm not going to make any changes to the score after each performance, and then I show up the following week with new scores. Am I doing this on purpose? ! ? 😆. --
