This is such an emotional post for me. I’ve been trying to get this passion project off the ground since 2019/2020 … and due to budgets, creative differences, publications shutting down, and a worldwide pandemic, it’s been a rough journey.
I thought of this project during the pandemic because @ DominiqueDrakeford and I starting growing our own food, and I realized how therapeutic it was.
It got me to thinking about how many black, brown, and indigenous farmers they were, that I can reach out to in order to support them and ask for some advice. To my surprise the number of Black farmers were extremely low! It’s wild because to be farmers are the back down of society and are lowkey our super heroes.
So that birthed this project! I get to travel the US shining a light on our super heroes or “essentials workers”. I get to talk about their life, what hardships they face and bring awareness to the social and economical injustices they face.
Much love it
@fujifilmx_us because after a few minutes of conversation at Fujikina we shared contact and what I expected to be a short email follow up, turned out being one of the best conversations of my life.
I was immediately immersed into a family that put creativity, the artist, & the art at the
Forefront. We had started talking about projects and I was explaining how bad I wanted to do a Nation wide BLACK FARMERS PROJECT! Without hesitation they asked how can they help and even offered their production services without expecting or wanting anything in return.
So after traveling to California right before Christmas and having to shoot on the only 2 rainy days that month, my team and I managed to capture something I was extremely proud of!
And this is Episode 1 of my Black Farmers Project! (Show some love at the link in my bio)
Also a special thanks to my team who helped me create this vision I could have not done it without y’all.
