Lines (Helsinki) is a site specific light installation visualising the sea level rise caused by climate change. The work explores the interactive relationship between humans and nature, as well as environmental impacts. The scenarios for the work are based on the IPCC's Climate Change Panels reports and local ground elevations, ranging from realistic predictions for the coming decades to more speculative estimates hundreds of years into the future. Our joint exhibition Collisions - together with Timo Heino @timoheinoart & Teemu Mäenpää @hupsisukkonen is now open at Himmelblau gallery @himmelblauart until 29.3.2026. Thanks to everyone who came to the opening! Timo Aho Y (Floating), 2024 Two-channel video installation Dimensions variable Y (Floating) explores the essence of a flowing river. It shows both, the bottom of the river and simultaneously the canopy above it. The river functions as its own cinematographer freely guiding the camera drift within itself. This unique perspective reconsiders traditional ways of viewing and depicting the landscape. It envisions how technology can be harnessed to expand viewing of the more than human world and at the same time enable us to experience - in this case - the river as a non-human active entity. The same waters that powered the making of these Finlayson's cast iron pillars two centuries ago in Fiskars served as the setting for this artwork, profoundly intertwining the location's industrial development and natural history. A few weeks ago, our light installation “Lines” was featured as part of the ATLAS25 Climate Conference with @niittyvirta ATLAS25 brought together world-renowned experts — including Dr. James Hansen and Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf — to discuss tipping point risk management and the urgent call for action. “...If greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise rapidly, a collapse of the ice sheets is possible. This could lead to sea level rise so extreme that this line — today 12.55 m above sea level — would be submerged 300 years from now.
