Hey Friends, I’m excited to share a preview video of “Hey Lock” from my upcoming album “Heartfelt” coming out end of July. The album features saxophone legend Dick Oatts on tenor (in addition to alto, of course). With the fantastic dream rhythm section team of Jeb Patton, David Wong, and Rodney Green and guest vocalist Vincent Ding. “Hey Lock” is a classic two tenors battle, à la Lockjaw vs Griff. Even though Dick and Tim are playing the same instrument, you can clearly differentiate because of their sound and phrasing. After playing this 84xxx Relacquered Mark VI tenor, I can confidently state that many relacquered saxophones can sound just as good, if not better than their original counterparts. My favorite are great playing factory relacquered horns which have used the right amount of cellulose lacquer, and the engraving looks sharp to the eye and touch still. Often times, these horns have tone holes in great condition. Badly relacquered horns usually have tone holes buffed to death.
