THANK YOU ✨THANK YOU ✨THANK YOU I am so overwhelmed and blown away by the huge amount of feedback, kind words and support I have received in the last week since the release of ā€œThe Truth Will Set You Freeā€. This was a daunting undertaking and I poured my heart and soul into it for the last 18 months. ā€œLabor of of loveā€ is a frequently used term, but I can say that I truly understand the meaning now. I am so grateful for all your messages, comments and reviews, and I am incredibly humbled by them. That my story is resonating and now has the chance to help others was always my goal and I am thrilled beyond measure at the response already, in just one week. Thank you all so very much. Thank you, also, to all the journalists and publications that have given me the opportunity to spread my message. The respect, empathy and dignity that you have shown me has been so heartwarming. For those of you yet to pick up a copy, the link in my bio will take you where you need to go to order online. ā€œThe Truth Will Set You Freeā€ is available in Australia from BIG W, DYMOCKS, COLLINS and QBD. It is also stocked in dozens of local chains and independent retailers. Also available to order online from AMAZON and BOOKTOPIA. Ebook available from Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play. Audiobook, narrated by yours truly, available on Audible, Apple Music, Spotify or wherever you get your audiobooks from. I will endeavour as best I can to get through all your messages and questions, though it will take me some time to get to everyone. Once again, from the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU ā¤ļø Tim

Aussie actor Tim Pocock says the ten years he spent at a religious school in Sydney were a ā€œcomplete miseryā€. Students were taught that homosexuality would damn them to hell and Tim was relentlessly bullied for being gay. Tim’s new book is ironically titled after his former school’s motto – The Truth Will Set You Free. Now an acclaimed actor, entertainer, author and advocate for the LGBTIQ+ community, Tim is finally proud of his truth – despite the education that taught him to hide in shame. The Albanese Government broke an election promise when it dumped plans to finally protect staff and students in religious schools last August. Religious schools shouldn’t have to harm students or punish teachers to uphold their faith and it’s time for the law to change. Tim’s new memoir is available from June 25.

January 7 marks the International Day to End Conversion Therapy (#IDECT) — a day that exists because harm that should never have happened did, and in many places still does. Behind the slogans and statistics are real people whose lives were shaped by practices that promised change but delivered shame, fear, and lasting trauma. This day is about truth-telling, visibility, and standing with those who were told they were broken when they never were. At ABBI, we don’t speak about conversion practices in the abstract — we speak from lived experience, survivor voices, and decades of advocacy. In our latest blog article, we reflect on why #IDECT matters, what progress has been made, and why the work is far from finished. If you care about dignity, evidence-based care, and protecting future generations from harm, this is a story worth reading. LINK IN BIO

So honoured and excited to be interviewing Australian actor, producer, musician and advocate @timjpocock at this year's Canberra Writers Festival...which is happening THIS WEEKEND! 'Tim Pocock has appeared in Hollywood blockbusters such as X-Men and beloved TV series including Dance Academy – but his early life was far from the conventional path to stardom. Raised in a deeply Catholic family, attending a school with links to Opus Dei, Tim was in constant fear of revealing his sexuality. So he performed his first role: of a devoted, devout, straight son. His escape from this constrictive life through Los Angeles stardom to find his true voice is a triumph of individual will.' I've read THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE, which I found both absolutely fascinating and very moving. By the sound of it, there are almost 20 years between Tim and me - a generation, in a way - but I was saddened, and shocked, to find we had similar experiences in that we weren't able to find ourselves until a little later in life...largely because of religion and being raised in a very conservative part of Sydney. No doubt we'll have a great deal to discuss! Link in bio or head over to the Canberra Writers Festival's website! xo #timpocock #thetruthwillsetyoufree @hachetteaus @cbrwritersfest @putnisandra #canberrawritersfestival2025

What the hell? Actor Tim Pocock knows about hell, even outside of the depictions he was so graphically exposed to as a child. Tim lived another kind of hell: the hell of religious repression, bullying, constant feelings of shame and living each day being told he was wrong simply for being who he was. Hear how Tim escaped that hell on this week’s episode. While the religious schools I went to growing up were nothing like what Tim experienced, speaking with him made me think very carefully about some of the things that I had normalised about my childhood. I wonder if I’m alone there. Search Better Than Yesterday in Apple, Spotify, your favourite podcast app or click the link in the bio.
