💚 @timholt here with 15 seconds of peace from the English countryside to soothe you this Sunday morning. How has your summer been so far?
The name of this scrumptious place, Buttermere, likely means “the lake by the dairy pastures” from Old English and Norse origins. Dorothy Wordsworth described Buttermere as “a perfect image of peace.”
As the world feels ever so wonky at the moment, places like this really help to soothe your soul.
That and a freshly buttered jam scone.
Happiness is… a drive through these autumn colours of Yorkshire, England to a pub built in 1275.
This area in medieval times was part of a large hunting forest - the Forest of the Peak. These woods and the surrounding area also have a famous son - Robin Hood!
The legend is he was born in Loxley, Sheffield around 1160. I like to think he spent his early years exploring around here…
This is @timholt off to find Maid Marian to share a pudding! 🍮
Fancy a Springtime trip through golden fields and bluebell woods? ❤️ Everything shown here was filmed last week in Cheshire…and yes, those storm clouds are real!
Who can resist a thatched cottage and fields of such vibrant, happy colours?
The journey continues to the bluebells, which are in full display right now…especially glorious this year. Then, it’s off on the walk up to Lymm on the canal path, where I spotted a canoeist taking advantage of the Spring weather.
It’s a Bank Holiday tomorrow; a good excuse to fix the bicycle tyre puncture I got on the way back from this! Have a wonderful, peaceful Sunday ☀️
Nature heals ❤️ Do you agree? Whether up in the Peak District, in the woodlands of Cheshire or the gorgeous Lake District..somehow a day in the countryside always helps to soothe my soul.
It’s been a rather unusual week in England -
Lots of sun and not a drop of rain! All that Winter rain has formed a beautiful Spring.
The daffodils are mostly gone but the Bluebells are now out.. and gardens have come alive. Bliss!
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday! ☘️
Happy Easter! 🐣 Let’s take a trip to Yorkshire with the beautiful Minster (standing tall since 1220!) , then off down the wonky Shambles.. peeking out from Wentworth Castle and the beautiful seasonal bluebells in the Yorkshire countryside!
The British Easter is a chocolate-fueled marathon, with an estimated 80 million chocolate eggs consumed across the country. Hot Cross Buns are also the staple snack. Spiced, fruit-filled, and toasted with plenty of butter (and jam!) while the Sunday roast is the main event.
Sadly I only received one Easter egg this year. If you wish to donate your spare chocolate egg to the Tim-needs-more-chocoolate fund, please do send me a message. Thank you.
Have a wonderful, peaceful day! 🌸
Happy Mother’s Day!* 🌸
‘Tis the season for country homes opening their doors again after a long Winter and the fresh new bluebell woods!
The first clip is from the lovely Dunham Massey in Cheshire.. a local place I like to visit with my National Trust card to sample the scones. Someone has to do it!
Wishing you a peaceful day…
*(It’s Mother’s Day in the UK and Ireland only so don’t panic!)
🌸 It’s meteorological Spring! But after the weeks and weeks of rain we all need a bit of colour right? ❤️
It’s the season of daffodils, bluebells and wild garlic.. things really start to change over the coming weeks and England benefits from all the soggy weather with colour everywhere 🌿
What makes your soul happy? Hello February! 💚 snow drops, daffodils, newborn lambs, bluebells, lighter mornings.. and hopefully no more snow!
We are fortunate in Britain with the Gulf Stream bringing us the warmth from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. ‘Ta very much!
I’m off to another National Trust property to taste test their scones…

Spring is coming! 🌸 Winter is fine until January drags but seeing the daffodils bloom is already making me happy.
This is my favourite view from Buttermere in the English Lake District from the Warnscale Bothy.
How fortunate we have the Gulf Stream to warm us up, on this little but lovely island of ours!

Morning @timholt here....Leave a ❤️ if you want to join the wonky club! It’s been so snowy across Britain, so let’s have a tour…
Locations:
1. Scrivener’s Books and Bookbinding in Buxton, England - the perfect place to visit on a snowy day with 5 floors of delights!
2. Lady Stairs House, Edinburgh, Scotland - built in 1622, it houses the Writers’ Museum, dedicated to the lives and works of various Scottish literary greats.
3. The crooked house of Windsor, England - Who can resist this wonky marvel! It’s been a bookshop, jewellers, tea room and everything in-between since 1592.
What’s your favourite? ❤️
This is @timholt wishing you a very Happy Christmas from England! 🎄☃️
Let’s head to Yew Tree Farm in the Lake District and get those “The Holiday” Christmas vibes! Built in 1690 it has so much amazing history and a perfect place to be.
It’s nearly 7am and I’m hoping Santa has left the keys to the Lake District cottage I asked for. Last year I received a lump of coal so I’m crossing my fingers.
Okay, time for the mince pies….
Have a wonderful day! 🤍❄️

🎄☃️ @timholt here with a question: Which cottage would you love to spend Christmas in? 1, 2 or 3? Again, these are real cottages in England…
1 - The Gardener’s Cottage on the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District. It dates from the early 19th Century and yes.. you can actually stay here too!
2 - Great Langdale valley in the Lake District.. a perfect place to be warm and snug in more remote surroundings.. but don’t forget the tea and mince pies.
3 - Grasmere, also in the Lakes. But this one has an added bonus: You’re in a cosy village and not too far from the delicious Grasmere gingerbread shop…
Have a wonderful weekend! ❄️
