40 years old! I took the week off from photoshoots while Arthi and Ivaan went back east to see family. I got a huge house in Breck with some friends on my actual birthday (Aug 16th), and then rented a cabin in a rural part of the Colorado mountains, just me and Lucy for the rest of the week. Together, we celebrated our 12th and 40th birthdays. I fly-fished, biked, made espressos, sat in the outdoor sauna, and mostly got caught up on editing photos from a busy season so far. 22 photoshoots in the first 14 days of August! So a cabin in the woods with an internet connection was exactly what I needed.

My 30s were a pivotal decade for meā¦ At 31, I quit my corporate finance job, picked up the camera again, and built a pretty sweet little business for myself. It still feels authentic to me and itās always been on my terms and my way. To me, that feels like success. But also, thereās plenty of room for growth and Iāve been thinking a lot about where to take Tim Gillies Photography next.

At 38, I became a dad. And Iām not going to lieā¦ Everyone was right. Itās hard. And the first year was really hard. In ways I never expected. Weāre hanging on. At 40, Iām looking forward to learning from and working through those challenges, watching Ivaan grow, connecting with him, and teaching him about the world and the values that are important to me.
