We lost a great one today.
James Casey oozed with musical talent. He couldn’t help it.
And he had the charm, charisma, and heart to match. Being on stage with him meant knowing that everything was gonna be okay, no matter what happened.
In the years since we stopped touring, he moved on to much bigger and better things. I’ve been so elated for him, and proud have been a small part of his journey.
He was classy, he was a pro, and he was a joy to be around.
A few years ago, he hit me up to ask if I’d heard of this “Trey Anastasio” guy, and if he should take a gig with him. I’m still not sure if it was a genuine question, or if it was his way of letting me know about an amazing gig without bragging about it. Didn’t matter. He took it, and, along with the myriad people he played with in the last decade, he was able to reach so many people with his soulful playing, big smile, and talent.
FUCK CANCER. Seriously. Fuck it so much.
James, RIP, my friend. Thanks for giving so much of yourself and your light to the world.
I decided this was the most appropriate birthday candle arrangement for birthday girl @taliatabin this morning. Yes, those are attachments for a breast pump. Happy birthday to the best wife (and mother to Lulu!) a guy could ask for.
