This week at the Calibrate Conference I met the most dangerous person… before I get into that.
I’m grateful for Eva Gunia for inviting me to be on the calibrate committee and help at the event as a connector. So many great people and ideas were shared. The resources and opportunities in our community are incredible. Prince William Economic Development and Tourism
Now back to my favorite person I met. Hannah is the founder of Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches and after sampling just one I knew my sweet tooth would never be the same.
Her business has grown from farmers market to inside almost all of the major food chains. Formerly in Walmart. Now in Target and several other grocery stores. She makes 100s of thousands of these each day!
My family knows how much I love ice cream. Especially when I can grab and go.
Klondike bars are wonderful.
Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches are just on another level.
Hannah’s story in business has overcome multiple challenges where she has needed to adapt and navigate. I related to her story because the struggle is real for all of us entrepreneurs.
From Marines to the supermarkets, Hannah has create something special.
She did that right here in our backyard.

I spent $10 this weekend…
And it might be one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
I found a set of drums on Facebook Marketplace and brought them home for my daughter, Kiera.
Before she even picked them up, I told her a story about Clint Pulver…
As a kid, Clint was labeled “the problem.”
He couldn’t sit still.
He tapped on everything.
Teachers got frustrated. Other kids didn’t get him.
Until one teacher changed everything.
Instead of saying “stop tapping”…
He said, “You’re not a problem… you’re a drummer.”
And handed him drumsticks.
That moment changed Clint’s life.
So I looked at Kiera and said…
“You’re not a problem either.”
“You’re physical. You love building. You give the strongest hugs. You have energy and creativity inside of you that most people don’t understand yet.”
“The real challenge isn’t you… it’s that you learn differently.”
“And your teachers? They’re not against you… they’re still learning how to help you win.”
“Be patient with them. Be respectful. Keep showing up.”
And then…
She picked up the sticks.
And something clicked.
Not just noise…
Focus.
Rhythm.
Discipline.
Joy.
The next morning at 6am… drums.
Later that day… more drums.
Then she grabbed her iPad, pulled up beginner lessons, and started teaching herself.
Watching her lock into something…
Seeing that spark…
That confidence…
That’s the moment.
That’s what this is all about.
Even if drums aren’t forever…
This moment is.
And moments like this?
They build identity.
They build belief.
They build legacy.
Sometimes the difference between a “problem” and a “purpose”…

I’m grateful for the opportunity to come back and speak at Osbourn High School to the business and entrepreneurship class as they get ready to graduate.
Walking the same halls 24 years later hit different.
As a 2002 graduate, I remember sitting in those classrooms not fully knowing what my future would look like. This month, I get to come back and share what I’ve learned through business, failure, growth, and chasing purpose.
