TIM MATHIJSEN - T.M./T.M.
opening September 5, 5 p.m.
For his first solo presentation at m.simons, Tim Mathijsen (1987, NL) examines questions of origin, reproduction, and autonomy through sculpture. His practice has long been grounded in the use of plaster β the traditional in-between material that copies, holds, and transmits existing forms without ever being an endpoint itself.
In T.M.T.M, Mathijsen extends this line of inquiry into a new body of work in glass. Sheets of glass carry CMYK printing layers that, during firing, shift unpredictably in tone and color. What is usually understood as a technical stage in a reproduction process becomes the work itself: a carrier that insists on its own presence, an image that detaches from the process that produced it.
The exhibition continues Mathijsenβs ongoing exploration of how forms and images circulate, change context, and acquire new meanings.
Opening: Friday, September 5 at 5 p.m. at m.simons.
