1) What motivated you to pick up a camera?
•
I always felt intimidated by photography as a whole. Over the years I had only used digicams or disposable cameras to try and capture various events in my life. I was inspired by my partner’s modeling work, as well as a friend’s advice for getting started, especially with film. After that it was like going down a water slide off possibilities for creative expression.

2) What were your primary focuses as you captured these images?
•
Growing up in the South Bay and Santa Clara County, I spent a lot of time and felt at home in San Jose. I wanted to try and capture the views and feelings of places that hold memories for me, only now in present time.

3 ) What do you want your legacy with photography to be?
•
I feel that this will develop as I continue to explore different styles of photography. At the moment I want to turn fleeting moments into something that feels tangible to anyone, not just myself. I also want to explore more creative projects with friends and models that want to create for art’s sake.

The waves of the seasons ebb and flow. I think I speak for all of us when I say that, as artists, we are our own worst critics.
I went through my own internal process while editing these photos, going through the layers of excitement, expectation, intent, discouragement, trial and error, and ultimately gratefulness.
These are from one of my first few rolls of 120 film I have shot, and the first 120 roll I developed, scanned and edited myself. There are so many things that can go “wrong” while processing film. Seeing the color shifts made me feel like I messed up. But that is a reaction.
If we don’t learn to appreciate the trials and tribulations of our own artistic experience, I don’t think we are doing ourselves the self service of seeing all of those little steps it took to get somewhere when we decide our work is where we want it to be.

Shot on 600 film in my SX-70 Sonar with an ND filter. It was a warm day and I wonder if the temperature affected the color rendering of the film, as all the shots came out a little more saturated than I’m used to. Made some slight adjustments in post.
