@Fashion InStyle, Tiger Chung, founder of
@tigerstrolling , unveiled a new collection centred on the experimental fusion of traditional Chinese Song brocade and modern denim, continuing the brand’s ongoing exploration of Hong Kong culture and urban identity. Through playful yet disruptive gestures, Chung juxtaposes and reconstructs two seemingly opposing materials, challenging established perceptions of heritage craftsmanship and street‑level textiles.
The collection is built around a series of Song brocade–denim hybrids, including denim‑style trousers crafted from Song brocade, detailed with silver thread embroidery that mimics the layered effects of washed denim. Other key pieces include a MA‑1 bomber jacket rendered in green Song brocade, as well as a playful reinterpretation of red Song brocade inspired by Mak Ling Ling’s iconic imagery. The range also incorporates an “I Love HK” T‑shirt made from Song brocade off‑cuts, alongside orange Song brocade pieces referencing the colour palette of firefighters’ uniforms, extending the textile experiment into the realm of collective urban memory.
In terms of structure and tailoring, Tiger Chung combines couture‑level three‑dimensional cutting with traditional Chinese flat‑cut construction, rebuilding garment silhouettes from the ground up. By dissolving the boundaries between craft and streetwear, as well as East and West, the collection continues TIGERSTROLLING’s exploration of hybridity as a reflection of Hong Kong’s layered urban condition.
