Wow. 2025 has truly been ONE OF A KIND. I’m incredibly thankful for all the opportunities, the people, and the moments that shaped me, especially my first in-person film festival experience at @hiffhawaii . Having been involved with HIFF since high school, this year felt like a full-circle moment in every sense. Thank you to the Student Filmmakers Committee at HIFF and @bmwofhonolulu for presenting WINNER as the recipient of the HIFF BMW Driven Student Filmmaker Award! I still remember standing on that stage back in October at the awards reception, hands shaking, overwhelmed with pride for my team and how far we had come together. @winner_shortfilm premiered at HIFF alongside other amazing films made by talented fellow university students, and I am beyond honored to be recognized for this award! Winner began as a script during my freshman year in Spring 2023, at a time when I felt completely lost. I had little on-set experience and no idea where to begin. Through working on SCA sets and eventually meeting my incredible team in Fall 2024, everything changed. Their talent, dedication, and belief in the project shaped this film into what it is today. I truly wouldn’t be here without them❤️. This recognition would have been impossible without my crew and cast, so this goes to them and to celebrating and uplifting AAPI representation within film! Thank you as well to @jenmay for inviting me to speak at the HIFF Honoree Gala alongside such talented students. It was an honor to share my journey with HIFF and my passion for uplifting AAPI representation and immigrant experiences through storytelling. I’m also forever grateful for the connections and memories made at HIFF’s HIFILM Industry Conference. I’m endlessly grateful to my friends and family who showed up to support us at the premiere of both @winner_shortfilm and @lastdance_theshortfilm , which I helped produce with @keonisouza ! Creating Last Dance together was filled with laughter, stress, and growth—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It has been an honor dancing with you @emmyokinaka , and thank you for trusting me as your producer 🥹🫶🏼 This year truly reminded me of why I do what I do 🎬❤️

Winner is making its World Premiere at HIFF on October 21st! I wanted to share some of my favorite frames. If you haven’t seen it go and get your tickets now at HIFF online! This film was so special for me, it was my first longer form narrative project that I had done in years and my first time working with a larger crew. There was a lot of growing pains as I was transitioning from solo work to working on teams.
