A night of poetry, essays, and the coming together of artists. Thank you @dearfriendbooks and thank you to all the artists who came to celebrate each other.
Some portraits from the shooting of Are WE Beautiful? The short documentary I filmed 2 years ago now. I absolutely love these.
Slide 11 is Maya. The reason I made this film. She was a former student of mine who made an offhand comment to me about how she sees herself in a sea of white students. And it struck me so deeply. How could someone so little already have that view of the world?
The last is Tenia (the best editor) at my first ever film fest in Indiana. Which was an absolute blessing of a trip. I was absolutely terrified and riddled with anxiety, but surrounded by so much love and people I trust that I got through it and screened my film to a full audience of strangers.
All shot on Kodak Gold and Polaroid by me.
If you’d like to watch I recently reuploaded the unlisted film to YouTube. The link is in my bio.
Currently finishing up my latest doc have to do some reshoots so please be patient.
