last friday was one year since i left my job. and i’m now looking back at what has incontestably been the best year of my life :’))))
could never have imagined any of this when i quit — so many opportunities that have made me literally squeal w excitement and / or disbelief. but more than that it’s the amazing ppl who i respected from afar on the internet and are now some of my closest friends. it’s the strangers who have waited for the crowd to clear out at the venue so they could come over and tell me they loved that one interview, or that I helped them find their new favorite band. it’s all the music ive gotten to learn abt, and everything ive learned abt myself.
and wtf there are now 30,000 ppl who are down to hear me yap abt music on here ??! insaneee. beyond that being an unfathomable number, it’s also 30,000 ppl who prove that appetite for music discovery and the incredible stories behind albums is v much alive and well.
ty for following n tyyyy for loving music like i do <3 and stay tuned lots of things to come this yr
ILYYYYY 😭😭😭

The bigger story surrounding @geesebandnyc ’s blow up imo.
Whether the witch hunt for the next Strokes is settled with this band and their (great) third album or not, the much more interesting context to me is that we’ve been living in a hyper artistic time in New York post-pandemic, one that in a lot of ways parallels the creative energy and output of New York post-9/11. But because of the macro shifts in music and culture, that output looks and sounds different, it’s more underground, it might not ever pop off, it might not be fit to — but it is very much there. Across genres, across boroughs. And Geese is one of the many bands that have been cooking in it.

Underscores’ NYC pop-up was an epicccc affair that spanned pop music’s past and present, a showcase of all the styles and aesthetics informing her new album U, a release incontestably pointing towards the genre’s future
Had so much fun dancing to one of the most chaotic dj sets I’ve ever been to lol. Thank you @lyft for having me !!!!!

Masayoshi Takanaka—the surfboard-guitar-wielding pioneer of Japanese jazz fusion—has sold out a U.S. tour at 73 years old.
For those who aren’t already familiar, @tia_ho__ looks back at how Takanaka became the iconic artist he is today.
i feel like there are more resources + tools available to independent artists now than ever before, which is v exciting to see. and @tunecore ’s been a mainstay. sm of my friends who are artists first released on TuneCore, and they’re still the leader in digital music aggregator.
if ur an artist and wanna keep 100% of ur rights they could be a great option :)

Artists are turning from traditional venues to more unorthodox options. You may find yourself at an abandoned mall, old pool, bowling alley, or a wrestling ring for your next concert.
@tia_ho__ looks at the artists pulling us into new spaces (literally) and talks to Lip Critic and TAGABOW about the new venues.
