"Itโs nifty how different sorts of sporty recreation mingle with specific subgenres of music; think surf, skate punk, or yacht rock. But since you can also just longboard down the access road, sippinโ Ocean Spray to some classic Fleetwood Mac without a care in the world, the rules clearly arenโt hard and fast. Whatโs most important is the meditation in motion, a flow state inspired by the movement of the music itself.
So even though roller skating may be most closely associated to disco (at least historically speaking), thereโs an Austin outfit putting those trucks on a whole new set of wheels. Thatโs The Lonesome Heroes, whoโve endured the rinks of the local live scene (and far beyond) for nearly twenty years now, weaving between the best parts of indie, country, and Americana. Most recently, this veteran quintet scored another milestone with their sixth LP Seasons Change, which has already racked up some impressive streaming numbers in the short time since its November release.
And in line with frontman Rich Russellโs decision to open up the recordโs writing process to a few Austin friends, these hometown heroes are lookinโ a little less lonesome in the album opener โPlacebo Sunโโs new music videoโฆas a matter of fact they rounded up a whole roller posse to kick off their boots and strap on some skates! To fully soak up the authentic cosmic Americana radiance of โPlacebo Sunโ, youโll have to keep The Lonesome Heroes company 10PM tonight at Hotel Vegas ahead of Alien Eyelid at 10:45, Shinglers at 11:30, and Automatic Weekend half past midnight, no paddling, skiing or interstellar travel requiredโฆmaybe just a show-stealing, shot-bombing pooch."

๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅLast summer I had the honor of tagging along with Shawn Hess and his Country Skillet crew. We set sail across the plains of Wyoming on what would be one of the most memorable trips I've had. Nothing like driving a sketchy flame van with your six best friends across the great state of Wyoming. It was the small town tour and we hit every thrift store, pawn shop, and diner along the way. It feels a little bittersweet looking back at that time. Little did we know that it was the last summer we'd be spending together in Wyoming. It's hard to put into words how significant that trip was to me. I think this music video will do the trick.

Ry Warner is an experimental country musician from the Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio, currently based in northern New Mexico. Warner has formed a new group named Natural Lite. The new sound explores subtle ways to twist, distort, and subvert those traditions that hopefully confuse and unsettle the listener - especially in a live setting - while still presenting the patina of a regular-ass country songwriter.

Christian Wallowing Bull is a Northern Arapaho singer-songwriter hailing from Lander, WY. His music combines dark droney folk with a layer of western grit. I met Christian on the Wyoming Small Town tour last June. We talked a lot about the struggles of addiction and the serenity we feel from within nature. "Far From Our Homes" was written while Christian was working in Missouri as a case worker for a treatment center. Longing to be back in the wide open spaces of his home near the Wind Rivers in central Wyoming. You can feel the pain of struggle within his presence and the resolution of healing within his words.
