⚒️ 2002/03 Fila West Ham FC Away Kit ⚒️ After finishing 7th in the premier league during the 2001/02 campaign, West Ham were hoping the 2002/03 season could see them challenge for European football. The squad at the time featured several premier league icons. Up front, the infamous Paolo Di Canio and clinical finisher Jermaine Defoe, on the wings, 21 year-old club-captain Joe Cole (scroll to slide 6 to see the most diabolical haircut of all time) and England international Trevor Sinclair, a 21 year old Michael Carrick anchored the middle of the park, with 3 more England internationals sharing defensive duties; Nigel Winterburn, Glen Johnson, and keeper David James. Simply put, the season was horrific, West Ham managed to win only 3 of the first 24 games, and finished in 18th place, sending them back to the second division for the first time since 1992. To make matters worse, Cole, Di Canio, Sinclair all left the club in the offseason. The subject of this kit is Sir Trevor Brooking. A midfielder who made a staggering 647 appearances for the East London club between 1966-1984! His most notable achievements include being instrumental in West Ham’s 1975 & 1980 FA Cup wins, being knighted by the Queen in 2004, and having a stand named after him at Upton Park in 2009. In 2003, West Ham manager Glenn Roeder fell ill, and Brooking took his place as a caretaker manager for the rest of the season. This could explain the nameset on the kit as Brooking stopped playing for West Ham in 1984, however did enter into the fray again in 2003 as manager. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the iconic Dr. Martens sponsor, one of the few fashion and football crossovers in the 21st century. This season would be the last season with the British shoe manufacturer as a sponsor, ending a 5 year run that started in 1998. In addition to the kit sponsor, a stand at Upton Park was also renamed “The Dr. Martens Stand” in 2002, which Queen Elizabeth herself presented (she’s a Hammer). Men’s XXL Good condition • $135

In 2011 the club dissolved after multiple poor league results but was re-established the next year due to new investment.
