20 moments out of 11,835 photos & clips from my camera roll in 2025 📸 It was a good year. Fast, busy, and at times chaotic — with the usual struggle of balancing work and family. But even with my busiest year professionally yet, I’m genuinely happy with how we handled it 🤝🏼 I also explored a lot of new corners of Iceland, and I’ll share a separate post soon with the places that really stood out 🇮🇸 Thanks for sticking around — more to come! My two extremes. When I came home from Greenland, I sat down with my son to change films in my film camera. Like the good teacher I am, I accidentally put the already shot-on-film back into the camera and put the new one aside for development. Straight away, we started "breaking in" the new film. The next day and many photos in, I get a call from the photo lab saying that the film had been empty. I immediately realised I had probably made a "bad switch". Lo and behold, developed the film and saw I had shot over almost all of the Greenland photos. At first I was pretty bummed. I thought the photos were ruined, both the Greenland ones but also some beautiful photos of my kids. After looking through the photos again and again, I've actually started liking them more and more. In a funny way they perfectly encapsulate the two extreme ends of my life. Jumping off icebergs into the ocean in Greenland one day and changing diapers and goofing around at home with my family the next. Anyway, cheers if you read all the way through. . . . . . #visitgreenland #greenland #arctic #thrainnko #thrainnkolbeinsson #nikonl35af #35mm @pixlarframkollun

Where did this rock come from? Seriously! East Iceland (Austurland) has over 500 km of hiking trails and one of them leads to Einbúi (The Hermit). A massive solitary rock rising from the flat landscape of Jafnadalur valley in Stöðvarfjörður. The hike takes around 3 hours round trip and can be combined with a visit to the Stone Arch. Swipe to the end to see the Stone Arch with the breathtaking fjord view. Follow along for more hikes and hidden places in East Iceland. 📷 @thrainnko #celand #hikes #hiddengems #eastfjords

The top 15 most popular spots on my Iceland Map 🇮🇸 In Iceland, we tend to think we have a pretty good idea of which places are the most popular with travellers. But this really showed me that big crowds and Google searches can be deceiving 🤞🏼 With access to my Iceland Travel Planner & Map, users have over 450 places to choose from while putting together their dream itinerary for Iceland. To make the planning easier, while looking through the selection you’ll have the ability to favourite places that you like ⭐️ Since launching in December, I’ve had almost 100 users joining so far, and here are the top 15 most favourited locations, at the moment, according to my little travel planning community 🙏🏼 #iceland #icelandtravel #icelandtrip #icelandplan #thrainnko

Sunday walks in Iceland 🇮🇸🧊 Every now and then, the temperatures stay low enough and for long enough, for glacial lagoons to freeze to the point where you can safely walk on the ice. It’s hard to describe the feeling of threading a maze of ice while hearing the ice crack as the glacier slowly crawls forward. Probably one of my favourite winter activities in Iceland 👌🏼 #iceland #icelandtravel #triptoiceland #icelandmap #icelandguide

Ironically, as this canyon was going viral on social media a few years back, it was called “The Secret Canyon” 🤫 Unsurprisingly, it’s not so secret anymore, but since you have to hike for about 30-45 minutes to get there, it rarely feels overcrowded. With two waterfalls coming down (Hangandifoss and Múlafoss) and the incredible views along the canyon, this place is bound to impress you 🤝🏼 I’ve created an Iceland Travel Planner & Map with 450+ attractions in Iceland with detailed information about each one (see example below) – comment “MAP” and I’ll send you the link 🇮🇸 QUICK NOTES: • WHAT IS IT? An epic canyon on the south coast with two waterfalls (one at the bottom and one close to the viewing spot). • BEST SEASON? Summer (but definitely doable all year around but sketchy when icey). • BEST TIME OF DAY? If you want the canyon lit up you’re gonna want to aim for midday (basically any time the sun is high and rising). • NICE TO KNOW: The hike generally takes around 60-90 minutes there and back. For a picture with a person in it and the canyon in the background, turn right as you reach the final part of the trail. And if you have time you can also keep going a bit further along the cliffs (only on designated trails) for different view points. Careful though! This is an example of the details you’ll get for each of the 450+ locations on my Iceland map – so if you want lifetime access to my Iceland map, comment “MAP” and I’ll send you the link! 👇🏼🇮🇸 #iceland #icelandmap #icelandtravel #thrainnko #icelandguide

When travelling in Iceland, I’d always recommend stepping off the beaten path and exploring the lesser-visited places. In my opinion, that’s how Iceland is supposed to be experienced 🇮🇸 Comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send you to my online Iceland Map & Travel Planner 🤝🏼 But the key isn’t just where you go — it’s when 🕙 I’ve mapped these (and 450+ others) with timing notes for each location 👌🏼 I like to plan my travel days so I arrive at each location when the light is at its best. There’s nothing worse than hiking to a canyon only to watch the sun disappear behind a mountain and leave everything in shade. I’ve spent years researching light, direction and timing across the country so you don’t have to. Comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send you a link to my Iceland map with 450+ locations, planning tools and resources to help you get the most out of your Iceland adventure 🤝🏼 #iceland #icelandguide #icelandtravel #thrainnko #icelandmap
