My name is Matt and I appreciate you being part of Thou Can Drum!
Figured it was time for a little background on the goofball putting out these basic drum beats on the ol IG.
I’ve been playing for over 25 years. My friends and I decided one day we wanted to start a band and that’s where my drumming journey began.
During that timeframe I been fortunate enough to write and create albums, stream some Dryvel(@dryvelrock 🤘🏻). Play numerous shows. Gone on a few tours. Played in a couple other bands. All while continuing to learn and grow as a drummer. Couple of photos to show some of the journey!
Today, the band still plays together as a cover band @scottydkband .
But the main focus has been towards Thou Can Drum where I want to help encourage others that playing the drums is possible! They can be a difficult instrument but with practice and patience, you can play the drums!
I am far from an expert but have enough experience and passion to pass along the mentality that you can be a drummer too!
You’ll find my videos to be basic and probably a bit boring but there’s a purpose for that. I’m still playing the drums! And you can too. The beginning can be a little boring and tedious as you learn and develop the fundamentals but it’s part of the process!
Difficult beats don’t make you a drummer. You are still a drummer if you’re playing basic stuff. Be proud of yourself no matter where you are in your journey!

These are grooves that can be used often, sound great and can be easily learned with practice.
They are basically broken up into two groups.
✅ 16th note patterns (Groove 1 & 2)
✅ 16th note triplet patterns (Groove 3 & 4)
Each group is the same sticking pattern. Just a slight move to the snare drum for one note to give the beat a slightly different feel. Small changes can have a big influence.
