Where there are enough stories, we want to make the unknown known. In the upcoming months you’ll see what this mission means. It’s our core, it’s something nobody does, and it’s something hard to copy.

As @shotdeck has been organising this recreation contest, initially a contest made up by @lawrencesherdp and his wife during COVID. I found this shot and I knew I wanted to try out recreating it.
With only a few hours left @sharonamarto , with the help of @angelinatheresia , pulled off the make-up so it was up to me to frame it, light it and hereby share it.

Guizhou, I will miss you.
After 6 years overseas, I recently finally got back to the Netherlands. This is sort of a short tribute to Guizhou which is the first province in China that I actually lived in, for the longest too. So needless to say, this has become some sort of my second home.
In total I’ve spent around 5 years living and working in China.
Initially @sharonamarto went to visit her friend while I went to Australia, but we were fed up with having a long distance relationship. With that on our minds we eventually decided to go to China together. I never expected to end up living there for that many years, to visit such beautiful places, to meet such loving people and make friends for life, to eat such a diversity of delicious cuisines, to immerse myself in such a vibrant but yet so unique culture, to get to learn one of the most difficult languages and to propose to my beautiful wife to be.
I’ve been back on and off since March but been on the go for different projects overseas that I have been blessed with and am very excited for some upcoming projects. The last few days I’ve just had the time to take a step back, reflect and realize, how much of an adventure it all has been.
But it only has just begun.
Now it’s time for our life in the Netherlands. I’m curious to see what will all come onto our paths. But I do know, life is short, so make sure you appreciate the little things & try to enjoy as much as you can, I for sure will.
PS: the voice-over is not meant to be as dramatic as it might sound for some of you, but I felt like it suits the story and goes along well with the imagery that I’ve shot in different places of Guizhou.

Invaluable ways to develop yourself:
Whether you’re into filmmaking, the newest camera’s, lenses, lighting, anything film/video related (or even some photo stuff) or just having a good time, then I highly recommend visiting expo’s like the one @bousou.photo and I just visited in Münich this past weekend.
1. Knowledge: Immerse yourself in the world of filmmaking by reading books on your chosen subjects. From screenwriting to cinematography, soak up the wisdom of experts and pioneers in the field.
2. Study more: Unlock the power of observation by analyzing films or even interviews and BTS-footage from the people you look up to or even your peers. Absorb their insights, techniques, and wisdom.
3. Masterclasses: Elevate your skills through workshops and masterclasses.
@aputure.europe recently has been organizing very useful seminars, make sure to check those out!
4. Push your boundaries: Cultivate your storytelling prowess by constantly exploring new ideas. Challenge yourself to create short films or spec-ads that push your boundaries.
5. Network: Connect with like-minded individuals at film festivals, workshops and online communities. You never know who you will meet again somewhere in the near future.
6. Embrace critique: Embrace constructive criticism as a catalyst for growth. Feedback from mentors and peers will only help you as stepping stones for your development.
7. Reflect: Document your experiences. Reflect on your progress, challenges, and victories. People tend to forget the importance of sometimes taking a step back to reflect, see where you actually started from and how far you have gotten so far.
Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small. Every milestone reached is a step closer to fulfilling your goals.
But most important, execute. Do it. All of it. All of the above will cause for a domino-effect. Even though you might be unsure of the way, it helps you to be determined to figure it out.
