Early July 2018 I got a call from Jürgen Klopp. He said that Liverpool really struggled with their throw-ins. They´ve just had a good season with a 4th place in the Premier League, and lost the Champions League Final to Real Madrid... but the throw-ins were perhaps their biggest weakness.
Jürgen invited me to Liverpool´s former training groud Melwood, and it was the start of my 5 year journey with LFC.
According to “Tifo Football” Liverpool were only number 18 in the Premier League on throw-ins under pressure with a possession on 45,4% in the season before I came to the club. So Jürgen Klopp was right. They were really bad!
I´m my first season - where I coached Liverpool FC in my “Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in philosophy” - we improved from 45,4% possession to 68,4% - and went from number 18 to number 1 on throw-ins under pressure in the Premier League.
In my 5 years in the club we won 7 titles - including the Champions League and Premier League.
Some people says that throw-ins are just marginal gains... they are wrong!
There are often 40-60 throw-ins in a match, so they should be called gigantic gains instead...
My goal as a throw-in coach is not to earn money, but to spread my knowledge around throw-ins, so all coaches in the world can improve their throw-ins.
This is why I´ve started my “Gronnemark´s Throw-in Academy” - a online course with focus on:
- Long throw-in technique
- The Fast- and Clever throw-in
- Throw-in zones and tactical training

Massive congratulations to Sabah FC on winning the cup title in Azerbaijan — after also securing the Azerbaijan Premier League title for the very first time in club history. An incredible season for the club!
This season, I had the pleasure of working with the team on “Long, Fast & Clever Throw-ins” — one of the most overlooked, yet most frequent set pieces in football.
When I visited Baku in January to train the team, I was incredibly impressed — not only by the beautiful architecture and the friendly people in the city, but also by the amazing work being done inside the club every single day.
The coaching staff, performance staff, and everyone around the team created a fantastic environment, and from day one I was welcomed like part of the family. That means a lot when you come in from outside to contribute in a specialist role.
As a throw-in coach, I’ve now been part of 17 international football titles.
That never gets old.
Football is often decided by the small details, the extra percentages, and the willingness to improve areas others ignore.

20 years ago, I chose to follow something most people overlooked.
As a kid in the 1980s, I was fascinated by throw-ins. While others focused on goals and dribbles, I admired the power and precision of a long throw.
People thought it was strange — maybe even “weird.” But to me, it was exciting.
That curiosity became a skill. As a teenager, I developed a powerful throw-in and dreamed of going pro in football. Life had other plans.
I shifted paths — first to athletics, competing as a sprinter on the Danish national team, and later to bobsleigh, traveling across Europe and North America.
Then, in 2004, something clicked.
During a casual indoor football match with my bobsleigh team, I launched a throw-in across the entire pitch. In that moment, I said out loud: “I think I want to be a throw-in coach.”
The response? “Is that even a thing?”
It wasn’t. So I built it.
With no books, no roadmap, and no precedent, I spent months developing my own methodology. Soon after, I was given the opportunity to work with a Danish Superliga club called Viborg, and the impact was immediate.
But my journey wasn’t linear. There were doubts, setbacks, and long periods where the international breakthrough didn’t come.
Still, I kept refining the craft — not just focusing on long throw-ins, but on making throw-ins smarter, faster, and more effective under pressure.
On May 1st, 2006, I took a leap and started my throw-in coaching company — even though no one quite knew how to define what I did.
In 2010, I set a Guinness World Record with a flip throw-in.
And in 2018, I received a phone call that changed everything.
“Hi, it’s Jürgen Klopp…”
That call led to five incredible years with Liverpool FC — and being part of multiple titles, including the Champions League and Premier League. It became the international breakthrough I had been working toward for over a decade.
Since then, I’ve worked with top clubs around the world and been part of 16 titles, delivered 1,000+ keynotes across 21 countries, and shared this journey with global organizations and audiences.
Today it´s the 20 year aniversary of my company - and I´m still living my dream.
It all started with a throw-in...
