Sergio Larraín, El Vagabundo de Valparaíso — a deeply moving and finely curated exhibition at Fundació Foto Colectania in Barcelona. Selected works from Larraín’s early period, alongside the iconic Valparaíso photographs, are presented within the framework of the Biennial of Photography Xavier Miserach and in collaboration with Magnum Photos. The exhibition also includes book maquettes and magazine publications displayed in vitrines. It is a pleasure to immerse oneself in the darkness and quiet magic of these images. For me, this body of work stands with close to The Americans by Robert Frank in terms of atmosphere and emotional resonance. Some of the photographs also remind me of the work of Michael Ackerman. I am grateful to have seen such a focused and clearly installed selection. The venue itself is highly recommended and houses a beautiful photography library. An essential visit if you are in Barcelon! @buchkunstberlin @magnumphotos @brix123 #sergiolarrain #barcelona #fundaciofotocolectania #buchkunstberlin #magnumphoto

Thank you, Barcelona — and thank you ART PHOTO BCN for a wonderful fair experience. Buchkunst Berlin Gallery would like to express our sincere gratitude to curator Isabel Lázaro García, the entire ART PHOTO BCN team, and especially to our artist Johnny Miller for being part of this inspiring edition. Over the past days, we had the pleasure of presenting works from Miller’s acclaimed series Unequal Scenes and Salt Works, while engaging with an incredible community of collectors, photography enthusiasts, curators, and visitors from across Spain and beyond. We were particularly inspired by the opportunity to connect with important private collections and collectors, and by the many conversations around contemporary photography, social narratives, and the power of the aerial perspective. Thank you as well for the vibrant program of events, encounters, and exchanges that made this fair such a special experience. We leave Barcelona deeply grateful and enriched by the warmth, curiosity, and enthusiasm we encountered throughout the fair. @johnny_miller_photography @artphotobcnfest @anadruga @buchkunstberlin @thomas.gust @dissenyhub @isabellazarogarcia #JohnnyMiller #UnequalScenes #SaltWorks #ContemporaryPhotography

The appearance of Cristina García Rodero with her magnificent photo series España Oculta was one of the highlights of Art Photo Barcelona. The Magnum photographer spent more than three hours signing her books before giving a wonderful artist talk, for which not a single seat remained empty. Where does this small yet truly great woman find such extraordinary energy? Her photographs form part of a body of work that belongs among the finest black-and-white photography of its time. The book has already appeared in its fourth newly released edition and is absolutely worth acquiring, even if it is currently available only in the Spanish edition. I am, in any case, very happy to be able to place a signed copy into the library of Buchkunst Berlin. Thank you, Cristina — that was a truly unforgettable statement. @buchkunstberlin @artphotobcnfest #christinagarciarodero #magnumphoto #blackwhitepho #españaoculta #masterphoto

INVITATION Buchkunst Berlin Gallery is presenting works by Johnny Miller at ART PHOTO BCN, Barcelona (May 8–10, 2026). From the globally acclaimed series Unequal Scenes to the mesmerizing aerial abstractions of Salt Works, Miller’s practice explores how landscapes reveal deeper social, economic, and environmental narratives. While Unequal Scenes exposes the stark divides between wealth and inequality, Salt Works transforms industrial salt pans into painterly compositions—blurring the line between documentary and abstraction. Together, these series invite us to reconsider how we see the world from above. We are excited to share these photographic positions and connect with you in Barcelona. 📍 ART PHOTO BCN 📅 May 8–10, 2026 #UnequalScenes #ArtPhotoBCN #BarcelonaArt #ContemporaryPhotography #PhotoArt Copyright: Johnny Miller, Unequal Scenes, Namibia, Walvis Bay, 2020 @johnny_miller_photography @thomas.gust @dissenyhub @anadruga @buchkunstberlin @artphotobcnfest

In Silent Remembrance With great sadness, we bid farewell to René Groebli, who passed away today at the remarkable age of 98 in Zurich. Photographer René Groebli continually renewed and enriched the history of photography and art. In his series of works, he established a unique connection between romantic photography and the abstraction of movement and blur. As a master of analog photography, he also developed exceptional virtuosity in the darkroom. For his innovative contributions to color photographic printing, he was honored with the title “Master of Colour.” Until the very end, he inspired and captivated others with his stories, insights, and presentations. His legendary works such as “The Eye of Love” and “Rail Magic” fascinated generations and resonated far beyond their time of creation. He always emphasized the importance of discovering new things and continuing to evolve forms and visual languages. René Groebli will remain in lasting memory—and his images will continue to speak to people. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and all who were close to him. In gratitude and remembrance ❤️💜💚 @rene.groebli @bildhalle @thomas.gust @anadruga @buchkunstberlin

An exceptional exhibition of the Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai — presented in Rome, in the former palace of Napoleon — spanning all phases of his oeuvre and major series, with more than 200 works from the collection of the museum in Kraków. Some works were animated through AI projections on the walls, gently bringing them to life. Rather than distracting, this intervention felt thoughtfully integrated — especially in dialogue with the material, analogue dimensions of the exhibition: the presence of different washi papers, traditional printmaking techniques, sketchbooks, kimono, and insights into everyday life in Edo-period Japan of the mid-19th century. Equally compelling was the exhibition’s reflection on the almost parallel emergence of photography, the development of early Japanese studios, and the formation of visual stereotypes — with figures such as Felice Beato. These connections, and their subtle relation to Hokusai’s visual language, were articulated with great clarity and depth. The exhibition unfolds with a remarkable sensitivity to process — almost calligraphic in its rhythm — revealing not only Hokusai’s imagery but the underlying gestures, repetitions, and discipline of his practice. One of the most compelling exhibitions in this field we have encountered. Bravo. #hokusai #thebigwave #japaneseart #rome #print

Yasuhiro Ogawa – FLOWING at Buchkunst Berlin Gallery We are very grateful to Aesthetica Magazine for featuring our current exhibition FLOWING by Yasuhiro Ogawa. We are delighted about this thoughtful highlight and presentation of the work. In this exhibition, Ogawa explores the threshold between landscape and abstraction, where perception dissolves into colour, light, and movement. His images do not describe nature; they evoke a state of seeing in which time, memory, and atmosphere unfold in subtle layers. 📍 Buchkunst Berlin 🗓 On view until May 30, 2026 🕒 Thu–Sat, 14:00–18:00 The Gallery will be closed on the first of May due to public holidays in Germany. We look forward to welcoming you. — Copyright: Yasuhiro Ogawa @buchkunstberlin @aestheticamag @yasuhiropics @hummusandfriends.berlin @anadruga @thomas.gust #yasuhiroogawa #flowing #buchkunstberlin #berlinart contemporaryphotography fineartphotography aestheticamagazin

View on Austin Road West & Harbour,. From the series "Hong Kong Romance" © Thomas Gust To coincide with KunstRAI 2026, we continue to spotlight our featured artists. German artist Thomas Gust creates a striking fusion of photography and fine art, using manual overpainting and abstraction to transcend the traditional boundaries of the medium. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century Romanticism and Japanese woodblock prints, Gust integrates motifs like flora against Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. His "striped images", informed by the verticality of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy, reimagine the city’s topography with a unique, painterly texture. While produced in limited editions of three, the manual intervention in his process ensures that each print remains a unique original.
