I’m happy to present this latest project: a dining table that seats at least eight people and is constructed entirely with solid wood joinery.⁣ ⁣ The top is made of cherry and the frame is ash.⁣ With its rounded forms and subtle curves, the design draws inspiration from Japanese temple architecture. The round legs are hand-shaped, leaving a slightly textured surface. As a personal detail, the pegs securing the joints are made of wood from vines grown in the client’s own vineyard.⁣ ⁣ On the technical side, this project was quite a challenge and required some ingenuity in designing the joinery. Until the very end, I wasn’t sure whether the table would be sturdy, but it turned out to be rock solid.⁣ ⁣ If you’re interested, please refer to the story highlights on my page to see some impressions from the build process.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #customdesign #contemporarydesign #customfurnituredesign #bespokefurniture #furnituredesign #solidwoodfurniture #solidwoodjoinery

Sideboard project⁣ ⁣ For this project I took a lot of inspiration from the works of modernist architects, most obviously Mies van der Rohe. The use of materials is inspired by the marble in the Barcelona Pavilion and the construction resembles that of the Farnsworth House which I have always loved. ⁣ This was quite a special project for me, because it was through my interest in modernist architecture that I first learned about traditional Japanese architecture. From here I started my journey into working with wood.⁣ ⁣ The construction is completely done with wooden joinery which can be seen in an upcoming video about the assembly process. Coming soon!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #customfurniture #interiordesign #interiorarchitecture #oneofakindfurniture #uniquepieces #customdesign #contemporarydesign #architectureinspired #midcenturymoderndesign #woodjoinery #handmadefurniture #sideboard #custommade #solidwoodfurniture #uniquefurnituredesign

Asymmetrical coffee table⁣ ⁣ This table is one of the most fun projects I have worked on this year. It is shaped asymmetrically in order to cater to an L-shaped couch, a specific wish of the client. ⁣ The wood is cherry for the top and legs and maple for the styles and rails. Lots of interlocking joinery is involved in this design and combined with the round legs and angular styles, the joinery is what made this project extra challenging.⁣ ⁣ This post is the first in a series, so please stay tuned for more detailed shots.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #noscrewsnonailsnoglue #customdesignfurniture #customdesign #customfurniture #joinery #woodjoinery #handmadecoffeetable #handmadetable #customcoffeetable #coffeetabledesign #meublessurmesure #designsurmesure #interiordesign #solidwoodfurniture #solidwoodtable #furnituredesign #contemporarydesign #wooddesign

We had a great time during last weekend's carving workshop. A big thank you to all participants who made it worthwhile and produced some beautiful serving boards! If you are interested to join one of these workshops in the future, give me a heads up. There will definitely be more of these coming soon.

Another beautiful addition to my Ulmia 1710s. This angle fixating device didn't exist for the early version of the tablesaw that I own. So once again, I was really glad that @arminhamers could help me out by making one from scratch. 👌 (The fine adjustment stops in the pictures were also made by @arminhamers )

The transformation that takes place when you build something out of wood. A model inspired by the cover illustration of the book in the 4th (and 5th) picture.

This summer I was lucky to be part of @kesurokai_sweden . About 70 carpenters from around the world gathered for two weeks near a small town called Unnaryd in Sweden. Besides the wonderful time we spent together and all the knowledge and techniques that were exchanged, the sense of community is what I will remember the most. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this event possible. A dream came true. 🙏
