📚🎶 BOOK CLUB BEATS 🎶📚
We’re excited to have the jazz stylings of Rabeca (
@thisisrabeca ) at our launch party for our book club on Socialist Reconstruction tomorrow, Saturday, Dec 13!
🗓️ Saturday, December 13 | 1.30PM
📍 Sisyphys Brewing | 712 Ontario Ave W #100, Mpls 55403
Minneapolis’ Rabeca never stays in one place for too long—each song meanders from meditative solos to upbeat drum shuffles and rich chordal harmonies. The quintet first joined forces for a living room cabaret performance in 2019 and have since melded their unique musical tastes into a hearty musical stew.
Drawing on their individual backgrounds in jazz big band, madrigal singing, and jam bands, Rabeca fuses improvisation with catchy hooks.
Join us in this reading and discussion on how housing, healthcare, education, public safety and many other aspects of US society could be transformed under socialism!
Book club dates:
📚 Saturday, January 3 at 1.30PM: We’ll discuss chapters 1-3 of the book (100 pages) and to hear from speakers on some of the subjects covered in the book.
📚 Saturday, January 17 at 1.30PM: we’ll cover chapters 6-10 of the book (85 pages) and connect our local struggles in the Twin Cities to the broader arguments in the reading.
Socialist Reconstruction: A Better Future for the United States envisions “the first decade of socialism in the United States,” and describes what socialism could mean for the many other aspects of US society. The goal of the book is to demonstrate, rather than just declare, that there is an alternative to capitalism in the United States, and to start a dialogue with all of society about what such a socialist society will look like.
Books will be available for $22 (let us know if this is a barrier for you). Reading is not required to attend the study group sessions!
This event will feature food, music, preliminary discussion, and study questions to consider while reading.
