The artwork is as exquisite as you'd expect from a band comprising four illustrators, and captures the chaotic, attention deficient energy of the record. This is a band brimming with ideas, and never knowingly underdressed. “It’s happening!!! Our second album ‘Owen & The Eyeballs Too’ is being released on May 8th and we couldn’t be happier that it’s coming out on @lostmaprecords We recorded the album a wee while ago and whilst the plan was always to put it out on vinyl, a variety of reasons* meant we didn’t. Then last year we decided it was the right time to put it out into the world, but before we attempted to hand etch each song onto flat frisbees made out of melted down black plastic bottles**, a friend*** recommended we send the album to Johnny Lynch aka @pictishtrail and head honcho**** of Isle of Eigg based record company Lost Map. And so we did! Lucky for us Johnny was into it and here we are, nearly a year later, having released several singles via the excellent Post Map Club*****, played a bunch of incredibly fun gigs and now releasing the record on red and white marbled vinyl****** with all manner of goodies inside.******* Johnny and everyone at Lost Map have been so welcoming and supportive of us, despite the fact that really we are bunch of silly sausages dressing up in silly outfits and playing silly songs about procrastination, werewolves, and having a moon for a head.******** Or maybe that is why Lost Map has been so welcoming to us. I remember something Johnny wrote in that first email back, exclaiming ‘THIS IS A FUN BAND.’ And I hope other people agree! ‘Which way is up?’ It’s the eternal question for abstract artists everywhere. You’ve made a painting, a collage, a print, an art, and whilst making the piece, it is definitely 100% this way up, but the next day when you come back to it, something’s not quite right. You stare at it for several hours before picking it up, turning it around 180 degrees, and bam, that’s more like it. Next week, I will be back at @theotherartfair at @trumanbrewery in London, where I have designed a rubber stamp activation* that allows visitors to both explore the fair and explore this very question! As the blurb on the website says... “Nick White has created 4 bespoke Rubber stamps which have been set up throughout the fair. It is up to the visitor to locate each stamp station in order. Each stamp station has a different colour ink pad and can be printed one of two ways by turning the stamp 180 degrees. Meaning there are multiple ways of creating your very own bespoke 4 colour print to take away with you.” The fair is on from the 5th to the 8th of March, and alongside my rubber stamping, there are, of course, over 175 artists showcasing their work, plus other interactive installations, performances, food and drinks. ❤️Valentine❤️ @owenandtheeyeballs have a brand new single out today! The song written and recorded a long time ago features on our album ‘Owen & The Eyeballs Too’ soon to be released physically on limited edition vinyl by @lostmaprecords in May of this year. People often want to know the story behind songs and so here goes… Nick Eyeball “As I remember it “Valentine” was written after we were visited by a large bearded man who happened to be walking past Owen & The Eyeballs practice space in Stoke Newington. The man, whom we later found out was called Chris, was wearing a pair of sparkly children’s angel wings on has back. Wings which were far too small for his broad frame. He also seemed to be carrying a small toy bow and arrow. You know the ones with those sticky things at the end. Are they called suckers? Maybe.  Anyway, the band ended up chatting to this man during a break in practice, and he explained he was feeling down. He said that no-one believed in True Love anymore and he had decided to go out into the world to be a real life cupid. Unfortunately, it seemed most people did not like being shot at with a small bow and arrow as they went about their business on the high street, and he had just been chased out of the Oxfam charity shop by two women who had called him a name he did not want to repeat.  Listening to this man, we decided we would write a song dedicated to Chris and to true love. The band asked the man what he thought true love was all about, and he said probably going to the park and going on the swings. As well as going to the pub and getting a drink with your loved one. Chris thanked us and said he felt much better now knowing that his quest to enlighten people about Love had been taken on by a band consisting of 4 illustrator artists with a penchant for funny costumes and big head pieces.  Chris ended up moving to Venice in Italy, which funnily enough is where Artist and Illustrator Jim Stoten, (who sings the song and did the single artwork) now lives. 🚨New zine alert.🚨 ‘Let’s Dance* (Like everyone’s watching)’, 18cm x 24cm, 20-page zine, with blue on pink cover, and black on yellow inners. Out of the 1 million new books and zines I had planned to have for @brightonartbookfair this weekend I have managed to make this here zine. But what a zine it is. It has everything. This coming weekend is B.A.B.F. which as everyone knows stands for ‘Badges Are Best Friends’.* To celebrate this I went and bought myself a badge maker and have been non-stop making badges ever since. I can’t stop. There’s no paper left in the house without 32mm circles cut out of it. Nothing is safe. Both daughter’s birth certificates? Full of holes. All of our passports? Like Edam cheese. The first drawing my first born ever did? Like a cashmere cardigan eaten by a large moth with a very round and even bite.**😋 Luckily for me and my family it is also B.A.B.F. this weekend which as everyone knows stands for ‘Brighton Art Book Fair’ and so hopefully I will be able to recoup some monies by selling some of these badges so I can afford to replace all of these irreplaceable paper based items.🤞🏼 Of course I will also have books, zines and prints for sale but mostly it’s about the badges.🧷 “But hold up Nick why badges? And why now?” Great questions disembodied voice. I would have to say I was inspired by*** @tomhumberstone who has been making badges out of his test riso prints and selling them at zine and comic fairs. And so I too have reused many test prints, both riso and screen, plus misprints from zines and the like. Thanks to everyone who came by my stall @wearebif whether that be for a chat or to buy something. It really was such a great experience. So many lovely folk making lovely things. Here be some pictures of that new print that will be available to buy this weekend @wearebif but moving about a lot less than in the previous post. When Jonny aka @darktownresident asked me to contribute to the ‘Darktown Film Club’ exhibition @atelierbrighton I was like ‘Yes please and thank you!’ And then I couldn’t decide what film to work with. I’m not sure if you know this but there are a lot of films out there. Some of which I’ve yet to see. How do you choose one film?! In the end I chose one of my favourite films to feature Adam Sandler as a pudding collecting, toilet-brush making, bright blue suit wearing, man with anger issues, who falls in love with Emily Watson. I decided rather than making a poster for the film (which sounds hard), I would redraw the film across 190 small frames, at 30 second intervals. (Much easier) I have drawn films like this before on long plane flights, but this was the first time I have done this on land. And although there are more distractions at home than a flight, it’s good to know that I don’t have to be in mid air to do this activity.
