Last Thursday, we hosted our Student Edition of Fuckup Nights Vienna. And instead of playing it safe, I handed the full responsibility to two people I trust: Ari @mld_a_r_i_ and Moritz @moritz.hofbauer07 . Along with the YEPA Network crew (Sam @samantha.tady & Paul @spizzzzza ), they didn’t just pull it off. They overdelivered.
They prepped speakers. They moderated like pros. They made it their own.
And here’s what Ari said before we started: Today we are students. Tomorrow we are leaders. And leadership isn’t a culture we talk about. It’s something we live.
That sentence alone is worth more than any leadership seminar.
Our speakers showed us exactly what that means:
Luisa Schiffke @luisaschiffke lost almost everything because of one thing: the fear of failing. But she also learned that facing that fear wasn’t a option. It was the only way out. The only way to happiness.
Marie Söllhammer @sollhammermariee a young female entrepreneur from an early age. A business idea hit during COVID. But then momentum stopped. And she figured out why: no clear responsibilities. No ownership. Just chaos.
And Dejan the FuN founder @thisisdejan shared his journey with crowd-o-moto. The epic fail that became his obsession and turned Fuckup Nights into a mission.
Setbacks aren’t a career killer. They’re a career builder. But only if you’re willing to talk about them before you’re forced to.

800 people. The biggest screen in Slovenia. 🇸🇮 And three speakers who made it feel like the most intimate room in the world.
This year’s Cities Fuckup Show at @urban__future in Ljubljana broke records and I am grateful beyond words. For the trust. The energy. The love.
We kicked things off with Honorata Grzesikowska, who dropped a truth bomb that silenced the room. After 20 years as an elite urban designer, she realized her biggest failure wasn’t a collapsed building but designing a world that ignored women. Watching her daughter’s schoolyard, she saw the reality: boys dominating the center, girls pushed to the edges. 20 years of expertise, and she had to unlearn it all to finally see the humans using the space.
Then Anton Nikitin took us into the eye of the storm. Imagine following every law to the letter to make streets safer, only to become the most hated man in Vilnius. A true masterclass in the human element of change! He showed us that empathy must precede engineering, and that if the community doesn’t own the vision, they will fight it. Even if it’s saving their lives.
Finally, Krista Kampus, the woman behind Tallinn’s European Green Capital win, showed us what happens when the biggest skeptic becomes the person in charge. As the only person who told her city not to apply for the title, she ended up being the reason they won. And then had to deliver the impossible. Her journey through #sustainabilitygovernance was a wild ride of internal chaos and political shifts, but she taught us the strongest lesson of all: Change never happens in the comfort zone. Change is prone to failure. Do it anyway.
To the UF team (OMG 😍) huge thanks for having the guts to put these stories on the biggest stage possible. And lots of love for everyone in that room who sat with the discomfort of real talk and didn’t look away.
Urban change is messy, prone to failure, and incredibly difficult. But as our speakers proved: let’s do it anyway. 🎤💥
