Someone in the Niger Delta woke up today with no clean water to drink. Not because of a drought. Because of oil. And the world scrolled past. Switched Realities is the film we made because we couldn't stay quiet anymore. It follows a boy whose life is torn apart when his uncle turns to pipeline vandalism. But before you judge the uncle — here's what you need to know about the world he lives in. Since the 1950s, over 13 million barrels of crude oil have been spilled into the land and rivers that his community depends on to survive. The fish are gone. The farms are poisoned. The water will make you sick. 60% of the arable land in the Niger Delta is degraded. Nearly half the people living there have respiratory problems. 4 in 10 live with anxiety or depression — not because of anything they did, but because of what was done to them. When a man loses his farm, his river, his dignity — and then watches billions leave his soil while his children go hungry — some make choices that hurt everyone around them. Including the ones they love most. That boy in our film? He didn't choose this. He's just the one living with the consequences. There are thousands of children just like him. Real ones. Right now. Ten years ago today, you left my side because of mere “cough”. I still remember it like it was yesterday, all the X-rays we did that showed that nothing was wrong with your organs yet you were dying. My strong, fearless and wise dad. The first picture on this post is my favorite picture because that is your face on a very normal day(he wasn’t even in the military) “Sam Whizkid” smile for what?😂 still you were the most caring man and I don’t know how you combined it with being strict and blunt! A man that grew up without the love of a father yet you were the best and the most present father. You’d go out of your way to make sure we had everything we needed, For me, you were perfect! It makes me wonder how life would have been if you were still here. I celebrate you today for showing me what love means and also I thank God for being with us all these years, it hasn’t been the smoothest but we would have lost our way without God. We’re so excited to share that our short film “Switched Realities” has won the Best Storytelling Award at the @munakalati.app Muna Kalati TV SDG Competition! 🏆 We had other amazing competitors from over 13 African countries. This story was born from a simple but powerful question: what if we could walk a mile in someone else’s shoes? Through animation, we wanted to explore empathy, understanding, and the small choices that can change the world around us. Being part of this competition was more than just creating a film — it was a journey of learning, teamwork, and growth. We’re deeply grateful to Muna Kalati TV for providing a platform where young creatives can tell meaningful stories for children that drive social impact. My life is truly a testament of the Grace of God! A woman intensely helped by God. A daughter fiercely loved by her Father. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with My word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
