Let's do a little introduction. Shall we?
HI, I am Abdulbasit. I am a writer, poet and storyteller with a background in Development Communication. I am passionate about social issues, culture, love, and writing about the diversity of languages.
I have performed at major literary events like Hausa International Book and Arts Festival in Nigeria, Constellations, More Life Poetry, Arts and Vibes, TEDxFCEZaria, and Kaduna Books and Arts Festival (Kabafest).
I have worked with organisations and brands in using poetry to address social issues and to drive key societal change through online campaigns. I have also supported in putting together some of the biggest literary events and creative campaigns in Northern Nigeria.
I’m on a mission to tell stories that matter and stories that driven by voices of people who desire change and are working towards it in our communities.
Let's connect.
Cheers to the good times that come and wash away the sour moments of our lives. Even though I missed out on the first two days, @kabafest was all the berry blast I needed to round up a rough week.
I got the opportunity to perform my poem, "There's A War Coming" which was written on the same day I got my official invitation to be a guest at KabaFest2022.
It means a lot seeing myself metamorphose from watching others to being watched. It signifies a great amount of growth for me and I am grateful and happy for the journey so far.
I was giddy, hyper and all hip on that poetry and music night. All thanks to the company of amazing friends and wonderful performances. Here's to more poetry, more stages and more growth. In Shaa Allah.

Worked on this piece titled "Ilimi Gishiri Ne" for Bridgeconnect Intiative Africa. It was a humbling experience as I got to learn a lot and experience a lot.
This poem takes us on a journey that explores the trials and tribulations of the girl child, in education, in marriage and in childbirth. The poem seeks to address the issues at hand and to seek for a redress for a better opportunity and chance at education and representation for the girl child.

There is something beautiful about young people being entrusted to help shape the spaces they belong to.
Today, we are excited to introduce the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative Youth Advisory Board — a group of thoughtful young voices who will help guide our vision, strengthen our programmes, and keep us intentional about the communities we serve.
As we continue to grow, we believe conversations around art, literature, and creativity become even more meaningful when young people are part of shaping them.
Please join us in welcoming:
• AbdulBasit Abubakar
• Zara Alim Bakari
• Yazid Mikail
• Fatima Bala
• Aliyu Kutigi
We are deeply excited for this new chapter of Poetic Wednesdays.

Since meeting you, I have started to find testimony in the eyeballs of a beautiful damsel like you
Testifying beauty, testifying existence, testifying that not every falling is a bad thing
Sometimes you fall into elevation.

We know the beginning of songs
They start with rhythm, lyrics or symphony
Sometimes the composition might even seem funny
Till the flow finds a way into us
And we are dancing and swaying our hips
Most times, we end up forgetting how they started.
But we pretend to not know the beginning
Of injustice
Because it starts with us saying it is just that
Or just this
Till we start to lose our lives in our streets.
Then we start to lose our faith in the system, in law and in justice
In those times, can we also say, it's just this?
But we are characterised by deficiencies, and we are infants to this society we belong, it's a sickness and it's jaundice.
How the people who are supposed to protect us profile us based on our phones and dey no kia
If we are supposed to enjoy our fundamental human rights or have to fight for our lives with our fundamental human might
E no clear.
So tell me, is there really social justice?
If you were wearing a wig, how will you judge this?
