One of the things on my to do list has been to get myself a shop vac for the gallery. Well, I can tell you, it’s life-changing. The only thing it needs is a set of straps so I can wear it on my back, Ghostbusters style. If you’ve got an idea for how to rig that up, let me know in the comments. Happy long weekend everyone!

With all the amazing sculptures at THIS Gallery, you might not have noticed this quiet little seed pod sitting in the corner. It’s still on the shelves, but ready to get carried away by the wind. This was wood-fired for 99 hours (4 days) in an Anagama kiln just earlier this year. It was fired on its side on one of the front stacks, and the fly ash and flames left a gorgeous spectrum of subtle colours, from warm lavender to a cool stone grey, olive green, naples yellow, and the earthy burnt sienna reds. There is beauty in every side, and you can twirl it around to match your mood. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the wonderful Vancouver art community and how we show up for each other. I’m truly honoured that this scrappy little gallery gets to host such amazing talent and that we get to call so many of you friends. I’m going to have a good shower cry and then head back this afternoon to open up for those of you who couldn’t make it last night! We’re open Saturday from 12-5 and Sunday 12-4. THIS Gallery is pleased to announce Minutiae, our annual group exhibition and spring fundraiser, opening Friday, May 15 from 6–8 pm. The exhibition brings together over 50 artists from across Canada, each presenting a sculptural work measuring no more than 4 × 4 × 4 inches. All works are priced at $200 and will be released at exactly 6 pm on the 15th, both in the gallery and online. As a community-funded gallery, THIS relies on moments like this to sustain its programming. Each purchase directly supports future exhibitions and the continued work of the artists we present.
